Ok, this thread is mainly dedicated to current prime company drivers. We've been talking about speed lately (or lack of speed), and thought it would be fun to compile a list of comments you've heard over the CB. Here are a few I've heard:

KLLM: Hey Prime, you got it on?
    Me: Yeah, go ahead.
KLLM: I just want to thank you sir. You're the first truck I've passed in a month!
Me: Glad I could make your day driver!

Super Trucker: Prime, why don't you get off the $%^&$ road and put somebody who knows how to drive the speed limit in that truck!
Me: Haven't I seen you pass me twice already?
    ....no response

Owner Op: Hey Prime, hold on to your door, I'm about to suck it off.
Me: Well, I saved the door, but can I have my paint back please?

Owner Op: Hey Prime, you know the speed limit in Illinois is 65 now right?
    Me: Yes I do.
    .....no response.

I know most people probably just ignore the comments or keep the CB off entirely, but I actually do enjoy having to CB on. Both for entertainment and for safety (break checks, truck on the shoulder, etc.). And I can't help myself. I have to respond to these guys and have some fun with em.

So, anybody else have any interesting, nasty, or funny CB comments about you being a slow poke?

If you ask me 55 mph is dangerous in most states...

I do remember being governed at 62 years ago though. It was amazing seeing the same morons pass you 3 or 4 times in one day.

I even had a guy pass me 3 times in my Prime leased truck in Arizona once. I was going 72 and he managed to pass me 3 times only to be seen later sitting on the shoulder doing God knows what... I suspect he was re-writing his log books...

A lot of guys still can't grasp the concept of keeping their left door shut and the wheels turning.

If I ever pass you twice....I'd be surprised! I usually pass'em once and never see them again.

If I do maybe I had to stop and fuel or take an emergency dump....It happens.

You know, I don't make comments about Prime, Stevens, Swift.... None of them. I recognize the trailer as I'm approaching. Make my necessary lane change. Pass them appropriately. And on my merry way I go.

I know they are all governed. I also think if the company didn't cut everyone's throats, they wouldn't have to govern their trucks so #### slow to same a nickel on fuel so they can show a small profit. I know that isn't the driver's fault, so I don't hold it against the driver.

What bothers me though..... If you Lease Purchase one of these trucks, the company considers you an Owner Operator & you have to pay all your expenses of fuel, repair, truck payments....

Why the hell would you be paying for a truck & still be governed at 55 or 60 or what ever speed they got you at?

I like doing the speed limit. And that is one of the factors I used when I got bank financing, bought my truck, and became a bonified member of the Owner Operator club.

Company trucks are at 62, lease trucks are at 65. The reason I was told about least trucks is so they can go into Canada (or some parts of Canada that require a 65mph governer).

Most successful lease drivers at Prime do not run at the governer though. They will drive the same speed as company drivers (in the 50's) to save on fuel and give themselves a bigger paycheck each week.

It's not just a small profit. Fuel is the largest expense after the driver for these companies. Saving 1mpg multiplied by 3,000 trucks (millions and millions of miles) is a big deal.

I'm not saying I prefer to drive slow, but I'm just pointing out that their reasoning is valid. All companies are doing things to save money right now and remain competitive. Some companies are even charging their drivers for excessive idle, won't install APU's, holding off on purchasing new equipment, etc. I have an APU, I have nice equipment, and Prime has continued to purchase new trucks and trailers without missing a beat. Saving on fuel is what Prime is doing instead.

But why would someone enter a L/P contract to become a O/O and still be stuck with all the rules as a company driver?

I understand the fuel savings with 3000 trucks. I've got one truck! I figured I'd spend about $5000 more per year on fuel running 75 mph vs. 65 mph.

So I can now go an additional 30,000 miles a year by going 10 mph faster. I average $1.30 per mile.... Which in return is an additional $39,000 in revenue. Hmmmm??? Is it worth it to go 65 mph to save $5000 on fuel? Or spend that $5000 on fuel & generate $39,000 in revenue?

Just my thoughts on the subject.

Oh, I agree with you 100%. I don't understand why somebody would want to do that either. Hence the reason I'm a company driver and have to play by the rules. Savin' my pennies for bigger things in the future (which will not be leasing). It'll just take a little time to get there.

But yes, I agree with your last post entirely.
