Puppage, Tonythetruckerdude and paryki Thank this.

I always used a Cobra 29 with weather band.
And the antenna makes a very big difference. The taller and straighter it is, the better. That will give you more surface for your signal to emanate from unimpeded, and thus give you a better sound to folks listening.paryki Thanks this. -
You can get one on ebay peaked & tuned alot cheaper than you can buy one at a truck stop!!

Cobra 29 Classic LTD or Uniden 880. Both are good radios that will carry you for a few years.
-
Numb and cowboy_tech Thank this.

Do you want Good or Cheap?

I used points to get a Uniden 980SSB at Love's. Last one that they had. Much better than my Cobra 50th anniversary edition (duh, right).

Its what I have, for my first radio and will probably be my last. At first I was all into getting and buying an antenna but if you have I think they're the 4ft stock ones that are in good shape then you'll be fine. The only thing I had done to it was peaked and tuned.
This is is off topic. Anyone know why you can hear the guy respond to the other guy asking if you can hear him, but can't actually pick up the other guy. It seems some people I can't hear but I can hear about 95% but there always that one guy you can't hear and another guy can.
