The political parties were always the man. Power has always been their business.

The reality is that the smarter liberals and the smarter conservatives really need to sit down and settle some of these old fights. There are clear winners and losers on some of them, and it's time to have new arguments ffs.

I propose that the liberals concede that the government isn't always right, nobody should be compelled to call anyone else anything, and that a sizeable portion of the welfare spend is the textbook definition of enabling someone to continue ruining their lives and the lives of their families. They also need to own the fact that the great society was a disaster, and that defining someone by their victimhood isn't useful. They also need to stop saying 'rape culture' from now on, and please stop acting as though liberty isn't worth anything. Any policy that involves the government sliding deeper into the private lives of its citizens has a major con. Not saying it can't be justified but it's a massive ask. Similar to saying 'this policy will increase the global risk of cancer for the entire population of the US by 1%'. Yes there are situations where we look at that ask and say 'yeah ok'... But that's going to be pretty serious business isn't it?

The conservatives need to own up to the fact that science is real, gays should be allowed to marry, drugs should be legal, abortion before 20 weeks should be legal (and actively discouraged through scientifically proven effective sex ed and birth control), and that in certain circumstances the governments involvement is actually the right answer to the problem. They also need to own the fact that when it's happening to black people it's still government oppression and it's still against conservative principles. They need to own how crazy the police state has gotten and accept a massive cutback to it.

Everyone needs to listen to each other and acknowledge that they want good things for the country too. Everyone on both sides wants the same stuff. We just disagree about how to get there. Both sides are right about some stuff and wrong about some stuff. We need to all stop assuming that our side is 100% right and the other side is evil and out to make Mad Max into reality TV.

For the most part I agree. Not one single political party encompasses all of my beliefs and what I feel are important issues that need addressing. I'm sure the vast majority of people are in the same boat.
