I don't know where you are located, but if you were not cited, it sounds like you got to skate on a ticket. and in a lot of states you will not even need a lawyer, just get an accident report and if the truck was at fault, they will be glad to settle.

i will be the big brother here. the reason you had no insurance is because of the lack of funds. if times are that hard. then find a new job(better one). dont get yourself into trouble or broke cause of a job.

What did you fail to do with your insurance, pay the monthly premium? You normally have a 30 day grace period to pay the premium. When your insurance cancelled, the insurance company was legally obligated to immediately notify the bank that holds the title of your car. If your bank knew about the lapsed insurance they would have provided it for you at a much higher cost than your regular insurance, but at least you have coverage. You have a couple options here.

    1. Find out from your insurance company when the last day possible to make your payment was.
    2. If you went past that date, find out from the bank with the car loan what insurance they can provide since you let the coverage cancel on a car that they owned.

Banks don't let cars they own lose their insurance coverage. Somebody will have to pay for this if the truck driver somehow doesn't or isn't able to.

He said he was buying the car through the dealer.

Kind of sounds like one of them buy here pay here things.

On another note. If the insurance payment isn't made. There's no more insurance. Nobody will provide free insurance for 30 days. It's cancelled immediately. BUT, if paid in 2 weeks it can be reinstated. Otherwise. New policy. Maybe you can keep the old number, maybe not.

That's what happened with me when I tried to switch from Geico to Progressive. Only progressive wanted my son and his wife also listed. So I had to go back to Geico.

get a lawyer, plenty of them that advertise on the tv, radio, and newspapers.

talk to him or her...let them handle it.

just because you had no insurance (you may still pay a fine for that) he hit you..

the lawyers get paid when your case settles, usually a third of the award money.

they most likely will also send you to one or 2 of thieir doctors and physical therapists...do as the lawyer advises...>!!!!!!!

Dude, why did you let the insurance lapse?

You are supposed to maintain insurance on the car no matter what by the contract you signed with the lender.

It isn't like Michigan where cheap insurance starts at a $1000 every six months, you could have gotten one of them cheap policies to cover your butt for $100 a month.

Now the dealer or actually the lender will go after you for balance of what is owed on the car to cover their loses, they have the right to sue you and could screw you with any future purchases.

As for the truck and all of that, you won't get much out of them, you will have problems getting a lawyer to take the case because a lot of them will file both against your insurance company for mendical compensation and the other party for damages, this is how many contingent lawyers work.

Wow car insurance is that much up in Michigan? It's that way in the city of Tampa here because everyone runs around with no insurance, is that the same reason it's so high up there?
