You have good points. Should have mentioned that my father owns a company so I have a job lined up already. Lucky me! The truck I would be training in is a manual. I have also been planning on becoming an OTR driver once I turned 21, but after finding out I can get a CDL at age 18 then I might as well start young. And about truck stops, I got nothing for that. I guess I would have to deal with it.

You'll be alright. I got my CDL at 18. Started with a local milk distributor and they just told me "be careful." Righto! I got shifting down on a straight truck then eased into a tractor trailer. They'd send me over to St. Louis a few times, then Moberly, then Springfield and Joplin stuff like that to keep me in state. The day after I turned 21, literally, they flipped me bills for Orlando FL. I learned about Monteagle really fast. Also literally.

Nope, my cdl school told me I could so I tryed and the DMV won't alow you. You can take the permit test and get that in the system now I did that.

I live Upstate. Rochester to be exact. I'm not really looking for work. I have a job lined up in the family business. I'm just trying to figure out if I'm able to get a Commercial learner permit for tractor trailers at age 18?

Really sucks you have to be 21. You can die for your country though at 18.

Op i was 21 when i got my cdl and my dads an owner op also. Even at 21 you only have limited options bc of insurance requirements. You might even change your mind in a few years. When i got out of high school i had no clue what i wanted to do and getting a cdl wasn't even on my mind. Yea things changed and now here i am almost 24 and i can't picture doing anything else.

Many are saying that at 18 I can get a CDL but with an Intrastate restriction. 21 comes in when you drive over state lines. I'm gonna go to my local DMV next week and find out for sure.

Yea 18 you can intrastate only. Almost impossible to find a job, not cuz of the employer but their insurance policy
