CDL-A downgrade, how to upgrade?

Check with your DMV and see what is needed other than your medical recertification.

 

Each state has a different process, and all have a time limit to recertify before losing the CDL qualification. If you have been over 1 year, you may need to start all over again with a permit and retake all the tests.

Inquire with your local driver licence center to see where you stand in their system.

 

i am in calif.
quit my company and didnt renew my med card. so license was downgraded.
after about 2.5 years not working i renewed my medcard and turned it in to the dmv.
class a re enacted.
my license didnt expire in that time frame

 

I guess what to do depends on why your CDL was downgraded. Why was it downgraded?
if it was because your medical expired you may only need to submit a new DOT Medical certificate to regain your CDL. My state allows a CDL to remain downgraded for 1 day short of 5 years & get reinstated to CDL by just submitting a valid & current DOT Medical Card.

If it was downgraded because you let your HazMat endorsement expire you may be able to renew your HazMat. Or if you don't want to keep your HazMat endorsement you will need to trade your CDL with HazMat for a CDL without the HazMat endorsement.

 

My DOT physical is due on July 30. I only get a year card because of blood pressure, but the letter I received from Texas very clearly said if I let my med card lapse I'd have to go back through the entire process to regain my license.
