And if your finances would allow you to pay for the entire school up front with cash, you will be likely get a good discount AND you could avoid any long term employment with them to payoff their loan/debt. Good luck with your decision.

Might check into Super Service too. Don't hold me to it, but I think they'd probably just send you out with a trainer for 2-5 weeks depending on how you did on the road test. Equipment can be a little rough around the edges but they are really good folks.

VERY RESPECTFULLY, I would not have minded at all if the lady with the great smile had been my wife.

I have never married and never had any children.

To my knowledge, after Agnes Lum left the modeling business, she did marry and have children, along with going into another line of work altogether.

This month, this year, 5/21/2014, she will be 58 years old, (born 5/21/1956 in Honolulu Hawaii).

God bless her and her entire family!

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

If you're going to a big OTR company, good luck. I got my CDL on my own. No school or anything just went and took the test. I couldn't get a company to hire me, not even the lowest of the bottom feeders unless I went to a school and signed a contract. Every company I called asked how much experience I had. I would say none but I have my CDL. Then they would ask what school I went to and I would say no school, I just took the tests and got it on my own. They would act like I all the sudden started speaking chinese. I told them I already have my CDL and would be happy to go with a trainer but I'm not going to a school for $5k and signing a 1 year contract when I already have my CDL. I was working in the shop of the company I am at currently. It is a smaller company (about 200 trucks). I told them what I wanted to do and while I was still in the shop, they let me train with one of our drivers running some local stuff to get me up to the required experience level for insurance (which was 1 year for this company). After that, they gave me a truck and I've been running ever since and that was a year and a half ago when I got out on my own. I run the southeast, I'm home every night, and off every weekend and I make more than the OTR guys at these big companies. Go to some smaller companies around your area and see if you can work out some type of deal with them. That way, you won't be stuck at a company for atleast a year until a school loan is paid off. And you will get to run plus have a home life. It is possible but it's not easy. I had to work my butt off to get around having to go to a major OTR company but it has paid off. If you don't mind doing a little hard work or a little extra work, you can make it happen.

Yep, insurance companies and a few government agencies (e.p.a.) dictate everything in our lives.

I never attended any form of driving school yet I was hired on. That may have been 25+ years ago but the one forum member seems to be adamant that one has/had to attend some driving school in order to drive a commercial vehicle. That was not the case in my situation and I know I am not the exception.

OP who knows? I suggest applying in person at all the within driving range outfits and you may get lucky.

I appreciate the replies. I didn't obtain my CDL this way just to save money on truck driving school. It was originally just to have it as it would come in handy sometimes working for a smaller grading company. The idea of "possibly" trying to use the CDL to obtain a driving job is more recent. Ive really enjoyed my time behind the wheel training.

If someone is going to take you on it will be a smaller company, and you'll have to convince them that you're worth the risk. Larger carriers have to deal with their insurance companies, and the insurance guys really are in charge of who gets a seat. Have you ever thought about running a yard tractor around, and then convincing the powers what be to give you a shot at a road tractor? An LTL company might give you a shot as well, but you'd most likely be schlepping freight on a dock for awhile...

This ^^^^^^ never went to a "school" an uncle taught me to drive. But that was in the mid-60's too.....times have changed , and like several other posters have said , the insurance carriers have a strong hold on the hiring process anymore...is it right ...who knows..it is the way things are now. You may be able to get hired on somewhere , but I'm sure it will be an up hill fight.

Can you please define ^^^^^^? I would appreciate it. I think that you may be calling me something that is not allowable on this forum. I am on some form of probation for less so I am feeling as if the popular posters are being shown favoritism or at the very least, having a blind eye cast upon them and their pc posts.

Being only 53 years old,I was not licensed to drive an automobile until 1976,which was the year that I was granted a learner's license.I was 15.
