I wanna share a story with you guys.
So one day while driving to the store my son said "big truck" with nothing but happiness and excitement. It was one of his first words and it was because a semi passed by. It really embedded this whole dream of being a driver inside of me, Ya'll should've seen his face the other day when I met my wife coming from the job site at the gas station. He was screaming it just the same over 2 years later. I really want to see that open road and do what I love all day but my job right now is closer to that of an operator. I drive a distributor truck all day around a job site in 2nd gear and im operating it like any other peice of equipment on the job site. My favorite part of the day is when I drive that truck to the job and when I drive back for all the wrong reasons and thats stuck with me everyday this past year. So I figure its some sort of sign that I need to chase that high and go on the road, especially if it will equal the financial success of my family. Anyway the moral is I really appreciate the advice you guys have given me because I've been stressed about this situation. Hope ya'll have a good night and maybe find some joy in remembering what made you get behind the wheel.

Everyone takes a different path. You really need to figure out what kind of trucking you want & need to work in. Then see if the pay & conditions in that type of trucking are acceptable for you & your family. For example, Over-the-road OTR() trucking is lighting a fuse on a divorce bomb, IMO. LTL is good work, higher pay, but often works a night shift. That can cause family issues. For each type of trucking there are pros & cons. Have that goal in mind and then make choices that help you eventually get there. Even if, at the moment, you will deliver rubber dog poo out of Hong Kong, you need to have a destination type of job in mind & work toward helping to get there. If only because that goal will help you avoid the downward spiral that comes from working at random crappy jobs with bad equipment, low pay, bad management. If possible stay put & keep looking. You want each job to be either an obvious improvement in pay & conditions or an obvious step closer to your target job.

Remember, you're used to driving a Class-B truck, so don't forget now you'll have a trailer attached. Watch those turns and don't curb a tire.
