You need to get your STATE's CDL handbook and read the specific phrases that they use for mechanical items and specifically what they use to describe the item and its potential defects. When I was instructing.. ALL fasteners are Tight because there was no "rust, dust or abrasions" Hoses depending on what was inside them were described in one specific way. All tires were described in one way (other than tread depth of course), All wheels were described in one way. So there are a lot of things that you can cover by repeating a common phrase. There are a few items that you need to know, Most of this is learning what the "thing" does.. and what happens if it's not doing it. A visit to a truck shop to see new and failed parts could help if you can find one willing. All in all, the CDL tests are all derived the federal standards, but they change the phrasing to make themselves feel better. States can be pain in the rear!
