I am looking to get my CDL and have it paid for, money issue. I am also looking for a company that will allow me to take my dog, she's my baby since no one at home anymore.
I have no ties at home so I could be gone as much as possible. I do not really need much hometime so that is not any issue.
I would like to do OTR solo. I have a couple of chances for company training but they are both teams.
I would like some help on which companies you believe are the best or at least ones to avoid. Especially need help with ones that allow dogs.
I had one option for solo OTR but their school would take me because of a DWI over 10 years ago.
I have been thinking about this for years and now that I have an empty nest it is the perfect time. I have been researching for the last month and had decided to start next month hopefully. But now it looks like I need to start sooner because I lost my job yesterday.
I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

May I ask why that is alot? There are alot of company sponsored training listed on the internet. I am only asking to be able to take my dog after training and go solo not team.
I would think not needing home time would be a bonus for a company.
Is this really asking alot? I would like to know.
    I appreciate your input.

More and more companies are getting away from allowing animals. The ones that do allow them tend to be the better companies to work for, not the training companies. But I am sure that you can find what you are looking for if you look long enough.

I hadn't run into that with any of the companies I talked to. You'd have to run some time with a trainer/mentor, yes - but not as a team.

I'm trying to remember what companies said they'd let you take a pet... My notes are long gone.. but I think Stevens Transport was one

I'd just ask them up front what their policy is. I've got the feeling that after school, you'll go to orientation (and I doubt a trainer will let you take a pet), then on your own (and 6 months with no riders or probably pets), then maybe. But that menas it'd probably be about a year or so before you can take you dog. At least that's wht I'm planning. Just got my Learners Permit today so I'll have to see.

Actually I have been doing a lot of research on the internet and phone calls.
I have found the following that will take pets after you are done with you trainer and they pay for your school:
CSRT - Teams only - give 8 months
    Wil-Trans - Teams only- give 15 months
    FFE - give 1 year
    Stevens
    Werner
Midwest (MCT) - about 15 months

The following take pets after training but you have to have graduated already:
    Arrow
    CFI/Conway
    USF Moore
    Wel Companies

I am sure there are more but this is all I have right now. There are also a lot more companies if you have experience.

    Hope this helps.

    Hope this helps someone.
