I’m currently looking for employment in NC. Been driving for around 5 years with no accidents or tickets. I thought about running OTR and doing expedited, but don’t know who to contact or where to go. Some sites are filled with so much spam, and bad reviews that I don’t know who to listen to. You guys have any suggestions? I would try to go to a school and get my Class A, but like many others I have a family to feed and bills to pay.

Where are you in North Carolina?
Some cdl schools have weekend classes is you can't afford to quit your day job to attend full time.
The state might pay for cdl school, free to you. Google: WIOA Program North Carolina

Thanks Chinatown. I have a class b license, but having a class a would be nice. I’m currently in Columbus, NC. Basically between Asheville & Charlotte.

I love OTR driving and never got tired of it.
If you can get a cdl-a you can make great money where you live.
There's some good schools in NC that high quality companies hire from.
The WIOA Program I posted before is free to you.
There's some team outfits running to the west coast and Pacific Northwest every week.
There's some real good solo driving jobs where you can start out making $60K - $65K at least.
    Here's just one example:
    Superior-Carriers - $70,000 - $85,000 a year
Entry Level Drivers and New CDL School Graduates
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Provide a Completion Certificate And Class Transcript from an approved CDL training school.
    Train at your assigned terminal.
For Approved school list or application assistance call 800-655-0688

There's one driver I communicate with that's only been driving one year and if his average stays the same, he's on track to make $80K this year. He runs teams with FFE (Frozen Food Express) on a "Plasma" account, whatever that is. Maybe they hire in your area. Probably do, they run 48 states.

Thanks man, I appreciate that! I went to the WIOA site and have been browsing through there. I found one place that will pay you $550 a week during the CDL class, and then when you’re on your own it goes to normal $52,000 -$62,000. Sometimes it worries me, cause there’s a lot of scams out there, and I’m not familiar with that side of trucking.

I do know when I was younger I almost went through Alliance training and their tuition was $6,000. I was like “nah.” That’s a lot of money for something that I could go through at a community college for way less. The only reason I don’t now is I have to keep working and can’t afford to be off or not get paid. I’ve got a family, mortgage, etc... I’ve got to keep the money flow rolling in. Currently, I’m local, but it just doesn’t pay. You think it’s worth getting tanker endorsements?

I’ve been researching options. My goal is to eventually become an owner operator, and hopefully when I retire one of my kids, or all of them will carry it on. It’s be nice to leave something established for my children

Get all the endorsements; never know when an excellent opportunity becomes available that requires endorsements.
$550.00 a week during school is probably Roehl Transport. I think they hold back 3 weeks then give it to you. That's a pretty good deal.
Google for cdl schools in your area, then look for weekend classes. That would be better in the long run.
Some companies will reimburse the tuition back to you if you pay yourself.
Schneider Bulk will reimburse up to $7000.00 in installments of $200.00 monthly.
Easy to make $65K there at Schneider Bulk.

The garbage industry is awesome. Hourly pay (time and half over forty and you will work lots of overtime), set schedule, no weekends(in most cases), no logs, great benefits, no lay offs, etc etc. Check out republic services-careers at the bottom right of the screen.
