Ok guys -- Bare with me here.
I will be driving a F450 dually (14,500 GVW) and trailer (13,200 GVW) total 27,700 GCW
I need a CDL but not necessarily with airbrakes - I will never be driving a semi
But to get a manual and airbrakes can I just take a Class B with air brakes driving test?

That didn't work for a driver we hired, he had to take everything to upgrade..Pre-trip and driving test. He already had a Class A.. without air brake endorsement

No. You are a Combination Vehicle. Thus CDL A

To get a Class A with air brakes you must test in a Class A type vehicle WITH air brakes.

You are rated according to the vehicle you present to the Revenuer (DMV) for testing in. If it has airbrakes, then you are off to that part of testing. If it does not have air brakes then you will recieve a restriction against it.
Im not real sure which way it will go if you already or will pass a written on airbraking etc.
Many truck school graduates present a auto 18 wheeler to the state for testing and then wonder why they are banned from using manual transmission by restriction after. -
Does the air brake test even require a road test? I think you just need an air brake equipped vehicle to demonstrate you know the rules/regs
