hi Guys
new to the forum, new to the whole cdl thing
Anyway, I'm located in Chicago, and like everyone out there, would like to be home everynight, what are my odds of finding a decent paying, local driving job?
Should I focus on mom and pop businesses or larger national carriers?
Thanks in advance for your answers, I know they will answer many questions for newbs like me.

It's going to be harder. Usually, local want some kind of experience whether it be 4 months to 2-3 years. If I was you I would go OTR for 6 months, a year, or maybe even two years just for the training and experience. Then you should be able to get any job you want with the right endorsements and experience. Good luck!

google your local food or freight warehouse's see if they are hiring a spotter driver ya know the dude that shuffle's trailers from the dock to the lot this way you can be better than a chicken hauler backing up trailers just take your time & don't wreck everything your first year

Also look at local beer or pop distributors my son got on at Coke with no experience now he's got a pretty good gig pulling doubles for a beer company 4 days a week.

thanks guys, yeah some people get lucky, a job with Coke sounds good with me

With no experience it doesn't matter how long it takes you to find a job ,so just apply everywhere you can and hope for a interview, then if all else fails you move on to the megas

Most but not all local jobs require a minimum of two years experience. Thus, you will probably have to go OTR for a while.
