I am considering schools and currently live in CA. If I get my CDL here in CA and decide to move to Nevada after school do I have to surrender my CA CDL? I was told to keep it in case I decide to move back because CA is one of the hardest states to get one transferred to(figures).
CDL in multiple states?

do you plan on moving back to cali right after school? Why nevada for school, where in cali are you ?

As far as trucking as a whole, stay away from CA!
trku and road_runner Thank this. -

i thought you couldn't have multiple CDL's. Are you going to a school out here, or in Nevada? If out here, i'd get my CDL out here

I think you're right about multiple CDLs. The lady at the school I called said I should keep my CA CDL.

And I thought your "48 states" meant no Alaska or Hawaii!!

you cant have multiple cdl's. you have to give up your ca lic if you get one in nv. according to ca dmv you have to surrender your ca cdl if you get one in another state

You can only hold ONE CDL at a time and it is to be issued in the state where you are domiciled. If you go out of state to get a CDL at a school, then you transfer that back to your home state within 30 days. Part 383 of the FMCSR addresses this.
Edit, I see three of us posted the same thing at about the same time, LOL
