I just wanted to warn any trucker in Indiana who is about to renew his(her) CDL medical card.I just last week went to renew my medical card.I was filling out the medical history part and it asks about sleep apnea. If any of you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea,DO NOT check the box.Because if you do you will be going every year to renew your card. This is just another way for the State of Indiana and the ocupational clinics to get more money out of you.

When I renewed my card earlier this month, the doctor told me to expect a sleep study to be required in 2012 unless I drop 50 or more pounds before then. This was in Indiana as well. I don't think it's got anything to do with the state being crooked as it does CSA 2010. The doc even told me all they go off of is weight. It sucks, but without someone changing this whole CSA 2010 crap there's nothing anyone can do.

    rocknroll nik Thanks this.

CSA 2010 has nothing to do with the proposed new medical requirements, all CSA 2010 does is provide the FMCSA with method to monitor drivers and company's, there are no new regulations in CSA 2010. There is more to the proposed new medical regs concerning sleep apnea than just your weight, they will look at three different conditions- blood pressure, neck size (17" for males,16" for females) and weight (though weight has nothing to do with having sleep apnea) sleep apnea will not disqualify you from holding a CDL.

Have had the sleep study and yes it sucks. Insurance covered the majority of the cost.

I used to work in a sleep lab. I was the guy who hooked up all the electrodes and monitored the test from another room. I'm fully aware of what it'll entail. My wife's insurance would cover the test after it's ordered by my family physician.

Hoosier, I was just stating what the doctor's exact words to me were. I know what actually determines and causes sleep apnea. I've seen perfectly fit people have it and obese people who don't.

I stand corrected in that regard.

All this stuff changing at the same time makes it easy to get confused.
