Another trucking scam to generate revenue.
Too bad so many people, are willing to work, for so little, and put up with all this bs.
Good thread though,I was planning to take a few months off to do some home improvements.
Didnt think Id have to keep my medical card current.audeygdad Thanks this. -
In Tennessee they give you 5 years to get your med card unless your cdl expires before then..
I know because my wifes card had expired over 3 years... -
That is very strange. I had a class B CDL (so might be different because of that) that I used from 2006-2008. From 2008-2016 I didn't have a valid medical card but renewed the CDL just fine with my endorsements. When I went for class A permit, I didn't have to test on anything but combination vehicles. This is all in VA
I'd consider calling the dmv and getting a second opinion
Edit: I should add that I renewed the CDL in 2012 without a medical card and it wasn't an issue at all. I was just told that I'd need to get a medical card if I ever wanted to use it for a job again and id be good to go.audeygdad Thanks this. -
Friday Thanks this.

Edit: Also went in yesterday take the combinations, tanker, double triple tests because I start at the community college Monday to go for a Class A license. Couldn't believe you needed a birth certificate, SS card and 2 pieces of mail with your name and address to get a permit. (Federal law went into effect last year I guess.)Last edited: Jun 25, 2016
Reason for edit: Damn Fedsaudeygdad Thanks this. -
The rules linking the medical card to the CDL changed about 2 1/2 years ago. You have 15 days to add the med card to your CDL at the DMV or self certify by fax, after a physical. You no longer HAVE to carry medical card as when they run your license the med card shows up with the CDL. I still carry mine, just in case.

Wow no one reads the regulations?
The state's have an option to drop any cdl because of the self-certification/dot physical experation crap. This started a few years back and forces anyone in any state to deal with a recertification to get their cdl back. It is worst than pilots licensing, and I don't get why hasn't anyone started to complain about it other than a few of us who see it abusive.
Here in Michigan, you don't get your dot done in 7 days, they send you a nasty threatening letter, then after 30 days, you lost your cdl. You have to literally start over. If the state elected this process, then it is all the same, you lose your cdl and have to start over.Toomanybikes Thanks this. -

So if you lose your Cdl because of no med card what happens when you've been driving "intrastate "for a city or county or a local beverage company and then you decide to leave and take a " interstate "driving job you have to start all over?sounds crazy.
