Update.Went to the DMV and talked with a supervisor and was told that if I let my med card lapse for more than 6 months I have to get a CDL learners permit and take the "general knowledge test" and hold the learners permit for 30 days and then schedule a road test and my cdl will be valid again and that I would also have to retest on all my endorsements again.I have a friend with a tractor that I can use to take my road test with so this isn't a real big hurdle but what if I didn't I'd have to go to school all over again.Seems to me the law is way to strict concerning this because what if a driver becomes sick or has a operation like me that prevented my knee from bending the 90 degs that is required to pass med card requirements and it takes longer to heal and have proper movement than the 6 months they give you then your cdl is invalid.

Can we have clarification on the fact you don't have to carry your medical card? I have heard this thing all ways by all sources and I still see tickets issued for not caring medical cards.

They now have a copy of mine on file and gave me back the original and told me it was entered into the data system but I'd carry the med form anyways just to be sure

There is only one set of rules, it is right in the fmcsa regulations however the state decide what options to follow and this is the issue. I think all states are almost aligned with those regulations as of this year.

Texas will cancel your cdl if you let your medical card get past due. They send a few letters letting you know in advance though.

So update guys on my CDL.Go to the dmv for the 4th time ready to get my CDL learners permit because Thats what I've been told the other 3 times and I get to my window and the young lady questions me on why am I getting a CDL learners permit when I already have a CDL that doesn't expire until nov of this year and so I explain to her whats going on and 2 screens pop up on my profile so she calls the supervisor over and tells her about the 2 screens 1 is for a CDL learners permit and the other is for a renew on my CDL A and she looks at me and says which do you want and I'm thinking this is a no brainer so I say renew and she clicks on it and I'm like this #hit isn't gonna work it's gonna be kicked back out and rejected she says stand back so I can get your picture and that'll be 72$ and I'm like wth!I wanted to jump across the counter and kiss that woman! Not only did I get all my endorsements back with it to she tells me to make sure to renew my hazmat in 04/17.So now with the 3 resumes I sent out with CDL learners permit attach to it can now be changed and it also opens up a lot of different job opportunitys with my previous OTR experience. What didI learn from all of this is that the feds are involved and they sure as hell don't know how to regulate and it's making truckers lives miserable.
