I am just wondering if you have to get your CDL permit before you enter a driving school through a company that will be paying for my schoolin?

I found out when looking arround that some schools require a permit from the state they are located in. I live in FL and have a FL permit I inquired about CRST in Iowa and they told me that I would need a Iowa permit. So If you plan on going out of state to school check with company first or you could just be throwing away the cost for your home state permit. I ended up signing up with a reg trucking school in FL.
    Good Luck.

When I went to trucking school the school helped me get my permit. I attended driver training before I got a job with a trucking company. If you happen to get it on your own before attending it doesn't hurt to already have it. Now.... about having it while going through one of these carriers who help you get your cdl if you sign with them? I can't really speak for them. Each one of them has their own criteria and special programs so your best bet is to speak with their respected representatives and/ or recruiters. I went and got my own cdl thru a recognized CDL trucking school first, then I went out looking for the right company. Most of the times, the schools has good reputable company recruiters that come to their school for recruiter sessions to ask any questions you may have or even look in to any possible job opportunities. I see you are located in Salisbury ,Pa and I know that near you is a very good rucking school that operates in the Jonestown area. It's AAA School of Trucking. They are excellent and know their stuff. So check them out if you're shopping for a school. They also offer financing for their cost so you do have options and they are flexible. They gave me my start and it's been great ever since I made the decision to do it and become a driver.
