I want to drive local if I could make 3500-4k a month. If not i prefer to do otr and take my chances with percentage pay with tmc.
I have the option to use my gi bill(veteran benefits that pays for school) then attempt to look for a local job and if nothing there go otr at tmc. Or I can not use the gi bill and make the one year commitment to tmc.
I don't really like wasting time. So if my chances are really low in finding a job local that makes 3500-4k a month I rather just skip the cdl school and make money while I'm learning in tmc, i just rather mot make that one year commitment if I don't have too. Fyi I live in Connecticut.
Cdl school or company cdl training program

I find indeed.com very useful. A quik search for "local truck driving jobs" in Connecticut turns up a bunch. XPO and ABF are hiring and ads say they will train new CDL holder. I would call terminal managers and confirm this and ask which schools they hire out of.
-
Xpo holds their own driving schools for employees. You start work as a dockhand loading unloading trailers on a forklift at night and attend school in morning/early afternoon (3 month school). Once school is completed you will drive doubles or triples, depending on which state you’re in, moving trailers from hub to hub. It’s local work home everyday and you could easily make 50-60k on the first year if you’re hired at a busy hub.
You may have to sign a year contract that you have to pay a certain amount back if you leave before a year is up, but they don’t charge you for going through the school.Last edited: Apr 28, 2018
sam3106 Thanks this. -
School. Absolutely. You don't want to be locked into a contract working for a company you hate for 2 years. I use my GI Bill for school, and it worked out very well for me

I don't know if too many drivers that make that kind of money doing local. The money for us drivers is over the road. TMC is a good company and you can definitely make that money there

- You mind if pm you. I would like a little more detail on what's good money (unless you don't mind sharing how much u made first year).
- What company are you working for
-
Go find a decent school and get it on your own with your GI bill.
Use the benefits you've earned...why be owned by one of these training companies if you don't have to.Brickwall Thanks this. -
I only ask because most local job ask for a year or 2 otr experience. So I would have to be there for a year anyway right?
