I will be finishing CDL school soon and I am interested in whether prime accepts recent graduates of CDL schools and if I were hired what the duration and quality of training I would receive, I am especially interested in hearing from any Prime newbies who have done it this way. I have noticed many prime trucks in my area - philly - lately and they all seem to be late model and in very good condition.

    Thanks in advance

60k team miles with a trainer. There is plenty of info around here on the subject, you just got to sift thru it.

Hint: Trainers train people like you with CDL in hand. Discussions that involve instructors are about the Prime's CDL school and the process of students getting there CDL thru Prime. All students become trainees after gettin their CDL.

Btw, my current trainee got his CDL from an outside school. He's done with his trainee miles and is knocking out a few miles that get him closer to his first raise until he can upgrade to solo next week.

Most of the info regarding 3rd party CDL licensee's is dated, I tried calling a prime recruiter but it is very difficult to get a call back, so I guess my only option is to post a repetitive question here, so here is another one: how long before you are eligible for medical benefits? Thanks in advance.

I echo what u2 said you will be with a trainer for 60,000 miles.after that you will have the option of driving 20k more yourself or staying with said trainer to finish up. I was one when I started with prime I thought that 60,000 was quite a bit of training but now that I have gone through it I am glad that I did that many miles. lots of situations that require a experienced person to oversee what the trainee is doing. I am on my own now and I am pretty confident in what I am doing.

I think its 90 days before you can go on regular medical insurance. They offer a catastrophic injury policy to cover you in the meantime - its really cheap, and probably a good idea to take it before the regular insurance kicks in.

Best advice on getting ahold of a recruiter is get something to occupy yourself, and camp on hold. Its just that they're slammed.

I came to Prime with a CDL from an outside school... yeah, the training does seem long, but it will go by in a hurry. I think its a really good thing to get as much as you can. Training pay is pretty good too.

It should be the first day of the next month after you've been there 90 days, but they do offer a GAP plan for the first 3 months.

Finally did get a recruiter, she mentioned the $600 a week but said nothing about the .12 cents per mile (has this changed), she also said I could stay close to home for orientation, dont have to go to Missouri.

    Lets go Flyers!!!

If you get over 5000 miles a week, you'd get 12CPM as it would be more than $600.

    So anything from 0 - 5000 miles in a week = $600

    Over 5000 miles in a week = 12CPM

And oh yeah. Via Down Goes Brown:

Do I get .12cpm for every mile I drive or every mile the truck travels? I guess by not practicing they had all that extra energy to play in the Stanly Cup Finals, but the Caps practiced everyday and were so tired they lost a game 7 to the Canadiens at home, around here we call that a choke.

Its for every mile the truck is dispatched on over 5,000/week.
