Stevens Transport just hired a guy in that very situation. The pay isn't great, but the training is. Do 12 months there and he can go about anywhere. They also have tankers in the oil fields he can transfer to later if he wants.

 

Panther won't hire him unless he completes cdl school. FedEx won't hire an 0/0 with no experience and no cdl school. Has he priced insurance for an 0/0 with no experience? Check www.OOIDA.com for insurance rates.
He can try www.schneiderjobs.com and see whats available in their box truck fleet. Most aren't aware Schneider has a huge box truck fleet. Many they acquied when they bought Watkins-Shepard, but it's still growing.

i don;t know what he's going to do, maybe go to a real school for say a 160 hour course, and be retested on a manual transmission?

THEN he will get a certificate of completion.

good luck to him, you really cannot do much more for him, unless you want to pay for his training at this point.
