    Hello:

I am going to start training at C1 in Fort Worth next week and Im trying to find out which company I want to start out with. The government is going to pay for school on a WIA grant and I have a good driving record, etc.

I have a list of the following companies that hire recent CDL grads with a HazMat endorsement:

    Werner
    Swift
    Trans Am
    FFE
    Roehl
    Prime Inc
    Carter Express
    Conway
    Cypress Truck Lines
    Deboer Transportation
    Decker Transportation
    Gainey Transportation
    KLLM Transportation
    May Trucking
    PAM Transportation
    US Xpress
    Stevens Transportation
    USA Truck
    Schneider National
    Squire/Knight

Im trying to get a feel for which companies are good and which ones I shouldnt apply at. My license will be out of Texas and Id prefer not to have to transfer it. In addition, I plan to be OTR Solo and want an assigned truck and will need the company to pay for transportation to the training center and for a hotel while in orientation if its outside the Dallas area. I have no family so home time isnt an issue but Im a bit picky about the pay. I want to pull 2000-3000 a months after taxes. It's possible if I dont get stuck with a company that gives long layovers or screws with pay etc.....

Feel free to add any good companies that you know of that will take student drivers that I didnt list above.

    Thanks for the info

I'm also out of central Texas and have been trying to figure out the best company to work for. I've been prehired by Werner, ffe and swift. I'm waiting to hear back from kllm. Trying to find a company that does a decent amount in Texas so that I can get hometime a little easier then a company that mainly runs northeast, etc. Who else should I apply to that runs Texas? I plan on putting in an app with schneider and possibly Crete/shaffer. Good luck to the original poster

You need to make a choice based on research. Myself, I would probably go with someone like Swift, Stevens, Us Express or the like if I was new at it. A company like Swift is based out west, giving you more possibilities of where you may get to drive, instead of being stuck in the Mid West, Mid Atlantic or north east all of the time with many of the other companies. The other 2 I mentioned do a lot of western hauls also.. Also you said something about transferring your licenses... Your licenses will have to be issued from the state in which you live, no matter what company you work for or where it is located. If you live here in Tx, You will always have a Tx DL... If You move your residence to another state, only then will You have to have Your Lic changed for that state.
