My cousin wants to become a CDL driver in Fort Worth, Texas. Would he be better off going with company sponsored CDL training or would paying for his CDL training be a better choice? He is single with no kids and needs to start making money ASAP. I could loan him the money for the training if that is the better option (training was about $3500 when I got my CDL 7 years ago. Paid for it myself, thank you). If self-paid training is the way to go, do you recommend any particular schools near Fort Worth?

I just graduated ATDS down in Waco. Not the happiest of campers with them. It mainly has to do with promised class size Vs. actual...haha
By all means pay for it yourself if possible. I did not like the fact I would be beholding to a company for almost 150% of what schooling would cost me on my own if things didn't work out with said company. C1 is in FW and that is who Driver's Solution (PAM/USA) uses. If you want PTDI cert. then it's ATDS down in Waco or Continental over in Dallas. If by any chance you go to ATDS get the recruiter up in Arlington. She will help you tons more than Sue did for me. Sue promised me a class size of less then 10. When I got to the first day of class there were 9 people there.....plus nine or so more from Weatherford Oil there as well! Be sure to ask about any people coming from Weatherford Oil. Although some of the guys were there to learn, the ones that weren't made for plenty of distractions and wasted time. I know I got a cert. from PTDI and one from McClennan Community College (as well a defensive driving card...haha)
Price now is around $4k for the school.Ms.Jesse Thanks this. -

Just loan him the money if you can. You gonna save him a lot of trouble

I paid for the classes outright and would recommend him doing it that way. It allows for more options when going to work. Good luck with your decision! -
If you do Company training dont you usually have to sign a contract with them or something?

Question? So do you all feel its better NOT to go through a company sponsored training program, and just pay to get a CDL? I will be attending school at the end of Oct, and right now I am just searching for the either right school or company to go with any advise is welcome
