    Hey Guys and Gals,
I drove in the early 80's. I have a current Class A CDL with all endorsements with the exception of School Bus. I want to go on the road again. I guess I need to do CDL certification just to get my foot in the door, as I don’t have recent OTR. However, I was told I have to get an Indiana CDL, surrender my current license, then, and obtain my current CDL again. What’s up with that? Is the recruiter just confused? I’m sure that I wouldn’t be the first to show up with an existing CDL and current DOT Medical card.

If and i do say IF you already have a CDL??

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT turn in your current CDL. That is the woorse excuse I have ever heard of someone trying to get your money.

This from CR England I presume???

Tell them to take that phone they are talking to you with, and stick it up thier ace.

You NEED NOT turn in your current CDL, just go to a school IN YOUR AREA, and get a "quickie" refresher course.

Any time someone "needs" to turn in thier current driver's license, should ONLY BE A REGULAR driver's license, NOT A CDL.!!!!

Thanks for the quick response. I did question them and had no intention of surrendering my CDL. I don't know when I'll be able to scrape up the cash for a refresher, but that'll be the way I go. I didn't want to get locked into a contract that had me getting a smaller cut of cpm for something I don't really need.

I actually had several offers. I have orientation with Harris Transport for a regional job on the 8th of May. I was able to use my 8 months on a tandem dump (with a lowboy). I'm looking forward to Driving again.

As I understand it a change of residence to another state warrants surrendering ones current license. best wishes to ya..

I'm Keeping my VA license. I was concidering a refresher. That was in Indiana, but I'm not going to do that. I'll go for orientation with a company about 45 min from home. Pay and Beni's about the same as other, but new equipment, no slip seat and home on weekends.
