Is it the Western out of Denver, or that western express with the ugly trucks? Sounds to me like you want the gravy job from the get go. You need to go OTR with a trainer for about 3 months, learn all you can, then get a stay at home gravy job if you can after you do your time on the road and find out what truckings really all about.

""""""2. Going OTR is not paying dues, its going OTR. And no, everyone does NOT have to do it. The only people who go OTR are those who want to and those who aren't savy enough to find other opportunities.
3. There is no such thing as deserving a job simply because you've driven x amount of time OTR. In fact there is no such thing as deserving a job period. Nobody owes you anything in this world.""""""
Personally ...it seems like it's a LOT more work working w/in a certain radius of miles backing in/out of places 10x day than going to one place dropping off/picking up and then driving the next 7-9 hrs to a truck stop then hitting the next stop to drop...other than bad weather , it seems like the hardest part is the boredom.....just because some people wanna live like "BJ & the Bear' doesn't mean a few can't stay local and be home 2-3 nights/wk.....Badmon Thanks this. -
Bah, just saw this is an old post.

someone fed you a line of crap if you think you need to go OTR to get a local job. usually the trade off if you wanna go local right out of school is you will need to put in some time at the company doing grunt work, say for example its a lumber yard. then when they need you to get in a truck you'll be called on. so if you wanna go local, be prepared to do work to get that experience.
