Hey folks! Been a while since I posted. Been running with my trainer for three weeks. Pretty good experience. He was a company driver and a young guy 22 years old. He didn't mind having a 46 year old with him. We actually got along really good. I have experience so he was happy i could shift, back into tight spots and drive my hours. Easy money for him. We ran pretty steady except when something would happen on the weekend. Night and weekend staff are definitely not the greatest. I actually averaged about 300-500 dollars a week and we didn't run like we could have. It is all about eating out of the truck and not getting into the advance hole. Having been otr before I knew all about that and showed this kid how to do that and stop advancing money he had not made yet. We both learned from each other. On the flip side, I have heard horror stories, mostly from people who were trained by lease operators. I don't know how the pay works with one. It seems that they pay the student but not sure. One friend was stuck with one who would not take loads that didn't pay $3 a mile! Now I was a lease operator before and I know most loads back then did not even pay that. So, she was not getting her miles because this guy would not run, wow! Another scenario is happening right now with the guy I am going to team with. His trainer, lease op, will not let him go. He has logged almost 17,000 miles, well over the required limit for training, and he gets yelled at and does all night driving and all b**ch work while this guy sleeps and stays in the truck. He has not made more than $80 dollars a week! Something really wrong there. Running 5000 miles a week that should not be happening. He is being taken advantage of.I will be getting this taken care of and get him off that truck on Monday. My fleet mgr is a really good guy and has been there a long time and gets things done. I told my friend he needs to call someone a long time ago but he is not very assertive which I will try to help him with when we team up. I know in this business you have to be assertive and stand your ground. Sorry so long of a post, but that is all for now. Stay safe out there drivers!
