I’m getting ready to start OTR with a mega. Still in CDL school atm. I was wondering if Mega companies usually provide cell phones for their new drivers. Mine is old and needs to be replaced and not sure if it will be worth the added cost if I’m going to be given a phone anyway. Also was wondering what the best cell phone network is OTR in case I need to get a new phone. Thanks

Buy a new phone, the company will not be supplying you with one, and even if they did, I sure as hell wouldn't be using it for anything personal in nature.

Why would you want a company provided phone?
They would own it and all the records of your calls.

By the way, using the phone while driving can get you fired for the first offense if you are not hands-free.
If they can look at phone records at any time, they can compare your usage to when you are driving. And there are very detailed records of when and how you are driving in their truck. Everything is tracked.

I have worked for a co. that supplied cell phone, that's because i was dispatched VIA a cell. Mega's, no, won't supply cell.

I've seen drivers with Ham Radio in the truck.
One was talking to someone in South America.

Get a burner phone or separate cell phone and give that number to the trucking company.

    Get your own phone.

I have a company provided phone, I use it only for company business, I will not even answer it on hands-free if the truck is moving.

They ( mega's ) won't do that . Go to a decent store , buy a mid priced used smart phone , and join a good carrier . Get unlimited everything if possible , and get a good ear phone / hands free device with good range . ( sucks losing connection cause your 10 ft from the truck ) and 2 charging cords
