I received an offer from Central Ref. to be at their orientation Monday morning, but then the recruiter called back and asked if I had been trained on a 53' trailer? I told him no, that all the schools in town do everything with a 28' trailer, and that they were just now going to have me drive a 53' that I have my license now.

The recruiter said that I would need to go to their school for two weeks and train, and of course pay for it out of my check.

Has anyone else heard of this kind of thing? I'm pretty mad right now because I feel like I'm being worked for cash.

Sorry, but I don't blame Central one bit. Just look at it through their eyes. You were trained with a trailer that's 25 feet shorter...almost half the length. I'm no driver, but I would assume it would be a huge difference in the way you set up the trailer to back into a spot. Why the heck would a school train with a 28' anyways? I personally would not have attended that school for that reason alone.

Did you really mean 28' and not 48'?

Because it is much easier to manuver a 28 ft trailer and it keeps the passing averages high for the school. Some states will accept a pup for their skills test without any restrictions. Even going from a 48 to a 53 can be a challenge.

Every school in this area trains with a 28' trailer. I have seen them all. I understand it's a lot longer to make turns, but backing up is actually easier with a longer trailer. They started me backing with a 53' trailer.

You will find there will be many differences, I'm sure its an insurance thing. When you get with your trainer, it will make more sense. I would not be too hard on Central.

" even went to a truck stop and see if some one will let you drive there 53 " :biggrin_2559: Could just see that happening.

Bang Bang on the door , excuse me Sir , I am an recently licensed newbie with no real experience and only trained on a 28' trailer , the company I want to work for will not hire me unless I retake their training course. So any chance I can practise with your truck and 53' trailer:biggrin_25524:
