My trainer got a whistle (like the PE teachers have) and if I needed him, and couldn't wake him by calling his name (he use to be an EMT and was slightly hard of hearing) I was to use the whistle... Woke him right up!!

I'm considering getting a whistle too. But I want it because you have to snap people out of it sometimes. I have had close calls with pedestrians, stoplights, and curbs because students seem to get into some kind of weird concentration tunnel where the word, "STOP!!," no longer translates into a command but more of a gentle request. Lol, and it doesn't matter how loud because I have some serious lungs courtesy of the USMC. If a whistle could also wake me up it would be a bonus!!

    Training fun:
About two weeks ago I woke up to the truck shuddering. I looked up front and my student was pale and white knuckling the steering wheel. She said, "I'm in trouble!" I looked out the mirrors and saw white smoke backlit by the street lamps coming out both sides of the truck. I kind of laughed, grabbed the trolley brake, lifted up lightly and released the trailer brakes. I had to have her park and we made sure we weren't on fire. During the 30 minute break we repeated our discussion about not using the trailer brakes, especially in bad weather. And I got to point out the brake application gauge which is how I tell when someone is riding my brakes while driving. I don't think she'll ever forget that night! Lol.

What makes you think trainees are all gender matched? I took over a loaner truck from a guy who had a female trainee.

It's not a hard and fast rule. They usually don't have enough female trainers, so if you want a lady trainer you might be waiting a while for one.

I'd be more worried about getting a good trainer. My wife's first trainer at Central was a female and she was crazy. Her 2nd one was a guy, a gentleman, and a scholar of the industry.

Yep "she" and I am a dude... There weren't any issues. A student is a student.
