BiggDaddy, I would find another career to get into. If you are concerned at this point about hometime the job definitely isn't for you. Not being negative toward you just trying to keep you from wasting your time and money. All recruiters tell you hometime is 2 weeks. No one would drive it they didn't. Here is the reality, 4-6 weeks minimum if you want to make any kind of money.
Can you actually run two weeks at a time? Yes! They will be happy to put you on that schedule. You will then be the do-boy, picking up and delivering everyone else's loads because you can't be to far from home cause you want to be home every 14 days. They will even give you a few cents more a mile cause YOU DON'T GO ANYWHERE!!!
If you are serious about being a driver you need to put in the time out there. It doesn't work how you think it does in which you just make money because you are out there away from home. You aren't making money unless the wheels are turning. If you aren't staying out long periods of time then how can you make any kind of miles?
1badz28 and celticwolf Thank this. -
What chomping said is very true and right. I would add why do you want so much home time. If it's because your spouse wants you to be home then you as a family need to sit down and talk. This career not only affects you but your family.

Hello my fiance' and I have been scouring through the internet looking for answers to some of our questions. We are newbies with no experience wanting to find a company that will train and not separate us. We have been reading this forum for quite some time, and noticed Central offered training for us to stay together. I spoke with Omar in recruiting and he said we would have to be put on separate trainer trucks. So I guess I have a few questions...
1: Is it possible for us to be trained on the same truck?
2: Has Central changed thier policy regarding training as a team?
3: If separated can I be confident that my fiance will be safe with her
trainer?
Very interested and appreciate any of your feedback. We are very interested in Central in particular. Just have a few concerns. Thanks. -
at one time it was possiable to be trained on the same truck but i think they changed the policy a few years back to where you had to be married to be on the same training truck. if it were me i wouldn't be worried about her being safe . i would worry about what kinda of smooth talker with a fat wallet shes riding around with.

1 bad is right, lol. Personally from a trainers standpoint I wouldn't want to train a team in the same truck. It's too small a space for 3 people. Plus think about the sleeping arrangments, since nobody is allowed to sleep in the top bunk while the truck is moving, which means somebody is going to be sleeping in the passenger seat, which you really can't get any rest doing.
I wouldn't worry about her being safe, but she may be able to get a female trainer as well. -
Last year there was a couple that trained at the same time my husband went through training... They were on one truck with a trainer... Yep, it was a tight fit, but they did it. My husband and I had different trainers. He went through about a month before me. I had a good trainer, and had no fears. I did prepare myself though just in case he wasn't such a nice guy... I had enough funds on me to get home from the furthest part of the country. Not sure if they are still training couples together, and the couple that was in my husband's class were married. That might make the difference.

yep it is possable to get a female trainer but they are few and far between. the female trainers fill up fast due to the number of women requesting them. true story here and jj ranch can vouch for this too. when i went thru the central school there was a girl in my class who's husband was a driver for central. he was originally going to train her but he got stuck running out east and could not get back to take the trainers class and get her on his truck for training. well central put her on another truck and some things happened between them and the girl ended up leaving her husband for this other guy. it turned out to be a pretty ugly mess up in the central office.

My rant. Probably not a good time for the frame of mind I'm in but...... Just spoke with OTRM, I broke down, truck won't start, turn the key, nothing. They tell me to basically go thru a list of items they want me to check. Then they tell me if I don't check everything they tell me to check and they send a service truck out and find it is one of they items they tell me to check, I could be charged for the call. It will be up to my DM. Now I don't have a problem doing what they ask. But jeez it seems like whenever theres a problem I could be charged. Late load, could be charged, fuel out of route, could be charged, don't check what I tell you, could be charged.
Is this the norm for the trucking industry? I mean all the businesses I've ever worked, you have a problem with an employee, you take whatever corrective action needed, up to and including termination.
Charge the employee? Never. Employee's were always a part of the risk the employer assumed by being in business.
I never have been charged for anything with central but still the threats really piss me off.
Rant over. Sorry. I feel better now. -
Did they say that on the Qualcom? I would have that individual reported. Drivers don't work for OTRM. That is no way to treat anyone. That stated, I don't see a problem going through some troubleshooting to avoid unnecessary tow jobs or callouts. The fuel planning and on time deliveries without undue cause are expected and sometimes inconvenient.
