I applied to Central at 5:30 this morning and guess what?! If you weren't able to guess here's the letter they sent me! "Thank you for applying with Central Refrigerated Service, Inc., Unfortunately due to the number of trucks available at this time we have limited the number of drivers/students we are accepting to hire. If you have received this message you currently do not fit within our hiring requirements however if our requirements change we will be in contact with you. Thank You, Central Refrigerated Recruiting Department"

I've already got my CDL just got it this month, so maybe that has something to do with it but come on...:biggrin_25511:

4 months without a job and I can't even get a job at McDonalds if I wanted to.

It's luck of the draw. You get whatever is open. Usually, most company drivers get a Volvo or Prostar. The oldest volvo in the fleet are 2007's. My first truck was a 2008 Volvo 670. I am now in a 2009 Volvo 670. There are exceptions. If a owner op turned in a truck they know they can't lease (high miles) Then they will assign it to a company driver until the warrenty expires. Or they may have you go out and recover a truck. The equipment is pretty well maintained for the most part, sometimes you may get a "Hanger Queen" like my first truck was

The fact you have your CDL has a lot to do with it sorry to say. They only want people that will go through their school. It has been that way for over a year now with Central. I have been out of work almost 3 years so good luck on your job hunting.

Hey WanabeTrucker: I've been out of work for 30 months, yes that is a year and one half. I feel your pain! Newtruckerwidow is right... Central is hiring folks that have no training, no cdl, etc. Main reason is $, and secondly, they want you to do things their way. Nothing wrong with that. Just like working for almost any other company. There are many companies hiring right now. I was selected to go to five other companies; however, I selected Central for my own personal reasons. You might try Watkins-Shepard (Montana), Werner, Melton, Marten, and if you get terribly desperate, some of the others. Every company out there has good and bad qualities. There are several hiring right now. There is no trucker shortage, just a large turnover rate (due to poor management, poor treatment, and poor wages). Although I've never been a truck driver, I truly believe that with a great attitude you can deal with just about anything. I made it through Navy SEAL training, escape and evasion, and Vietnam... and all that was easier than being a high school teacher for 5 years. Perspective man, perspective. Good luck and God Bless you in your future endeavors. Peace, Scott

WanabeTrucker: You can tell I was a high school teacher... 30 months is 2 and 1/2 years. I didn't teach math, obviously. Scott

Newtruckerwidow: Not sure if my other reply was accepted. Still trying to get a handle on this posting stuff. One of these days I'll figure out how to post a picture of my Electra Glide next to my name. Anyway, enjoyed talking with you and thanks for the info. Look forward to meeting you and Mr. W. Peace, Scott
