I never had lofthouse cookies damaged, just over shipped.
40 cases extra on a load.
Too many to toss, so they went to a soup kitchen in Boston.

I will be so glad when this load is delievered. Think I have the reefer unit from h e l l!! Talk about 1 noisy unit and man, can it rumble the truck. Made it to N. Little Rock tonight and have had 4 drivers park beside me and immidiately move. lol Can't blame them tho, I'd move to if I wasn't attached to the #### thing.
Will be somewhere on the east side of Atlanta tomorrow. Going to the Farmers's Market in Augusta. From the looks of things, I'll be so close to the SC border that I think I could spit and hit it.
Wonder if I'll get another Lagrange wally world load going right back to Plainview?

There's several different thrreads about SLC and training. Read those and ALL of this thread and most questions will be answered. Any other questions you might have, just ask and I'm sure a Central driver will answer.

I passed my licensing road test today! I made a "loser move" (classic line from SLC classroom instructor Jeff) yesterday on my road test on the third to last turn before bringing it back to the yard, with only 8 points against me otherwise! However, going way too wide making a left at a T and running the right front tire over the curb is an auto fail. I haven't touched a curb through all of training either! Anyway, I redid the road test today and once again got only 8 points, and didn't run over any curbs. I passed backing and pre-trip yesterday on the first try.

Any good trainers looking for an easy going, hard working, old soul of a 23 y/o OTR trainee in the next week out of SLC? I was the star of my road training group of 4 :) You can talk to Bob or Dave about my driving. I'm a light smoker.

Checking back in. Made it to SLC and I've made it through classes. Passed everything on the first try thankfully - took points where I wanted, left points where I didn't have to take 'em. But I still did better than Bechtel so it can't be all that hard right?

I'll just add my personal addendum to the thread. Training in two weeks CAN be done, although it goes very fast and you need to soak in as much info as possible. Once you get past the DOT written test for your permit, the driving training is fast. If you don't have experience driving anything bigger than a cargo van, let others go first and watch. Soak in every single second you can. Learn from the mistakes of others on the ground while you can. And listen to your trainers. I was able to pass my alley dock test without ever having tried it at all. I just watched, learned, jumped in the truck and did it.

Also, when you go to test and you haven't done any of your practice on the same pad you test on, ask people who have tested/practiced on it. There are some little tricks you can pick up on where to place your truck, "landmarks" on the ground to use, or specific objects you can use to point your truck at. Offsets suck but parallel parking was really easy. I was able to drop it in the box 3 times in practice and once for the test without hitting anything. Again, the parallel parking test is easy if you use the cones to line yourself up. Then it is just a matter of turning the steering wheel.

All of the practices and tests we did started with cranking the wheel to the right.

Straight-line: always turn the wheel to the problem. If you see more of one side of the truck in a mirror, turn the wheel to it.

Offset: Reverse - R (hard), L (hard), GOAL, R (hard), L (hard). This should put you almost in the box. Most of us had to use a pullup and then drop back in with a straight line.

Parallel: Center rear tandem axle on cone - Reverse - R (hard), L (hard) until straight, GOAL, L (hard), R (hard) Follow the cones to align yourself and you should drop into the box. Remember: once you are in the box, stop moving your truck. If the whole truck is in the box, you are done. If you only used on GOAL, Use one more to ensure you are in the box - you have 2 GOALs to use.

Alley Dock: Forward - R (hard) to 90 degrees, L (hard) 90 degrees, pull straight, Reverse- R (hard) until you are jack-knifed 90 degrees, L (hard) until your tractor is straightened out, Use a pull-up to get lined up and put her in the box with a straight-back. Watch your tandems and stop short of the DOT Bumper Box, GOAL. Ease it back, GOAL. You have to GOAL *at least four times* on this test. So don't be afraid to GOAL.

Rookie road was fun although I had problems. If you are not used to double-clutch downshifting, get ready to grind 'em. Thankfully Rookie Road had plenty of straight sections to help work the kinks out.

If you end up at the Econolodge, forget about Wal-Mart trips. You'll need to find what you're looking for within walking distance of the hotel. There is a decent outdoor mall a short walk away and plenty of food nearby. Albertsons is a short walk away. There is a Leatherby's in the Econolodge parking lot with decent burgers albeit a tad bit pricey if you're on a budget.

There is a WalMart but it is a tad bit far to walk although a couple of people have done it. I've only seen one hooker over by the lingere shop across and down the street. There is a tobacco store with a decent selection of tobacco products. I picked up a couple cigars and some snus.

Directions are fairly easy to remember. Once you figure out what each mountain range looks like, you know all of your directions. Anyway, gotta go. Linebacker needs his PC back....

well it's been quite a spell since I've been in here. Figured I'd come and check in. I upgraded last Friday and have been sitting in SLC since then. I have a load going to CA on Monday. Got my volvo with 500,000 miles on it. Had to jerk the mech shop around a bit so they'd fix the truck up to my specs. But come monday...I'm hittin' the road.
    Stay safe!
