supposed to be opening up a school about 75 miles from my house. Again, thanks for the info.

    Jasper,
The school is open, I live about 45 miles from it and they was wanting me to drive there everyday for training..My recruiter said she would map quest my address and if it was 50 miles or more away then I could go to Salt Lake City...I have since decided to go with Prime Inc. They pay more while training and when you get solo..

I went to school in riverside and now out with my trainer.

we had a delivery wo walmart DC in tomah, wi where they took 4 hrs to give us our paperwork so we could leave. Then we DH 180 miles to pick up our 40k load of corn headed to syracuse ny. 4 th day with my trainer and drove in the snow.

Got stuck having to deal with that fun little snow storm. Had no way to reroute my self around it leaving from Long Island. The 81 was stop and go for what seemed like an eternity. Apparently the FM's don't watch the news since nobody on the other end of the qualcom seems to understand that it was a major storm. So it's a ###### if you do, ###### if you don't kind of thing.

"Why didn't you drive on?" Because I was having difficulty keeping the truck under control at 25mph!

"and why are you stuck in a snowbank? didn't you pay attention to the weather?" ummmm because in the last storm when I found a safe haven you slapped me with a service failure!

    arghhhhh!

Now where did I put my rose colored glassed?

the school is great if you don't get easily offended. You'll see what I mean. Lol they put you in the econo lodge on valley bl. The room isn't too bad for 2 people. Try to avoid rm 122. The shower is low pressure and the hot and cold are reversed. Dryer in the laundry wasnt working when I was there. Had to use the heater in the room or use the laundromat on sierra bl near rite aid. Wifi in the hotel sucks. Its unsecured and drops connection every 2-3 min. You can get a better connection at mcdonalds down the street

Hey thanks for the info k_ivey76. I tried calling them but got stuck on hold and then they hung up on me before I could talk to an actual person. I think I may look elsewhere. I am in no financial shape to drive that distance every day. I wasn't ready to sign on the dotted line or anything - just gathering info. Thanks again

Hey..welcome to the Central Asylum. I can give you a few pointers when it comes to the school part. I just went through the school in SLC. I'm out with my trainer, starting our 3rd week right now. Everythings going better than I expected.

1st tip- read every page on here. Yea, it might take 4 days and a dozen coffees, but it's well worth it. The regulars on here really have good info.

2- get a CDL manuel from your home state and study the general knowledge, air brakes, and combination areas. It's not a must, but will help a lot in keeping ahead of things. Spend your time reviewing and covering the next area when others are cramming.

3- be prepared. You've probably read about the small jail cell they put you in the first week. Its just what they say. It's got heat and mattress. Thats it. Bring whatever else. But, if your like most, that little room is for sleeping only, and you spend your time studying, eating, or anything else in other areas of the building. (its really not that bad)
The 2nd week is a little better, but you may have 4 to a motel room. (bunk beds) We stayed in the Econo lodge. Its about 15 minutes away. Get up early, no later than 5am, and catch the early shuttles. Yes, they do have laundry there.

All in all, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I'm sure once I get out on my own, and I see the crappy paychecks, my view on things could change. But it sure won't be a surprise. I'm prepared for it.

Many who come here can not handle the accelerated class. Or they have criminal backgrounds. Or just don't take the time to study.

I could go on and on. But if you read through all these pages you'll find everything you need.

Feel free to ask questions anytime though.

    Good luck.
