I wasn't saying that the things ya'll say aren't true. But when I made the decision to try and get in this business I made myself fully aware of the small paychecks, time away from home, and the BS associated with this line of work.
I honestly don't think you can make $21k / year working at Wendy's unless you are an assistant manager or higher up. Almost if not all "associates" such as cashiers, fry cooks, etc. are paid minimum wage or slightly higher and are kept on part-time. That is the way a majority of restaurant & retail jobs work.
Instead of a few hard-working full time employees, they would rather hire a bunch of part-timers and give them no hours and keep them just under the amount of hours to qualify for benefits. Even if you could get 40 hours a week, you'd be lucky to break $15k/year.

Thanks 6pak.
Widow i hope everything goes good today for you.
As for Wendy's, they hire full time here as do all the fast food places unless you ask for part time. They start at $10 an hour. In and Out starts at $11. You can make $8.50 an hour sitting on your ### taking reservations here at the casino. Hubby went back to being a electrician as soon as things picked up. Not having money can wear on you. He is much happier at home making decent money. I am not trying to scare anyone, i am just stating a fact. People are trying to see trucking as a savior when the economy is rough. Ya, people gotta eat, but there are how many truckers out there already that are saying the economy has hit the trucking biz too? Our time to quit came when we got 800 miles for a week. We were sitting for 4 days at a time waiting for a load. From what i have been reading on here, it hasn't gotten much better. It has actually gotten worse since Central has stopped it's on time pay, lowered lay over and even did away with the hometime pay if you get home late. So basically, you can be held captive out there and Central has no reason to get you home faster. I have watched over the last year so many come on here excited about going to Central then never coming back or saying they have quit. All most on here are saying is, don't go in expecting to make money. Out with a trainer, you get something like $450 a week. Ok, take away $150 for food all week and supplies. That is $300 to send home. Can your family live on $1200 a month? After you upgrade, you are really in deep. You are in the hands of Central DM's. They can get you some decent miles but yet again, they can't. Even at .28cpm at 2000 miles that is $560. Ya may look good. Until they take their fees from it. Once they are done with ya, you can have probably $380-400 for you and your family...Wait, take another $80-130 off for you on the road. So, you have at most $300 to send home again. Then next week comes and you get some crappy miles. You get 1500 miles. Thats a whopping $420 for the week. Oops, take away their fees. Down to about $300. Take off for your week, you send home about $200. McD's is looking good by now. These are things people should take in to account. Please listen to what the nice truckers here have to say. We only did it long enough to survive. Hubby was with Central for 8 months. Luckily, when he teamed, his teammate had to pay Central for his schooling. While teaming, he made decent money, but his teammate also paid him .38cpm. He was bringing in up to $800 a week sometimes. AS a solo, it sucks. Good luck to what ever newbies decide. I hope it goes better for you then it did us. If you don't make it, come on back and don't be afraid to tell people it was a mistake and you should have listened to others. I'm not...lol...If you do make it, well also come back...lmao...Have a good day all and be safe. -

Oh yeah.. For some people.. It could kill them.. Luckily for me. My fiance is with me.. Our only bill is a hundred dollar phone bill.. So if we make 500 a month.. Were just fine.. But for some.. The cost of living at an all time high.. And 500 a month aint gunna feed your babies at home..
I won't discourge you to come here.. If you keep that whip cracking and those 01's and 06's flyin in.. Their gunna work with you.. But you have to prove yourself.. Don't lolly gag around at truck stops or sleep for 14 hours.. Do your ten and hit the road again.. Have 5 days to get 1000 miles? Be there in two and bug the hello marry outta your dm for a repower or drop.. They say no.. Well call your planner.. They say no.. Call the big man.. See what I'm sayin?
Money can be made here.. But only if you be agressive and take control.. But at central.. There's always gunna be crappy weeks.. Their a training mill.. Well I hope this helps someone!!The Challenger, Donnyh, jtrnr1951 and 1 other person Thank this. -
My husband has been a company driver for awhile and now has been a L/O for bout a yr now. Like I've said before you have to play the player! Sometimes it works and other times it don't! Central will do everything they can to cheat you. And nobody can tell me otherwise. We have had some darned good checks and we have payed Central plenty! Every few weeks there is a different scam they are trying to pull to take money from your check. For a few weeks they was trying to charge Rhino for reefer fuel. EVERY CHECK! If you don't pay attention, they get by with it. It's always something different. They have taken parts of his truck while it was parked to put on another truck while he was sleeping!!! He gets an oil change 165.00 to find out a couple hundred miles down the road the idiots left the oil cap off! He sends a message they say, WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO????? Duh! let me see now!!! I can say he has THE BEST FM that Central has. He treats Rhino like family. He is very busy trying to fix his check each wk, get him loads longer than 9 miles! Via planners! It's really crazy all the time. You can make it a few weeks and then you don't have enough to eat the others. If you like that way of life. It's a GREAT job! Why is Rhino still there? Until he has another job to go to he has to for the family. Kinda like Russian roulette when you start. Don't know what wks will be good and believe me, you will have bad. So if your a person who loves to take chances. Like I said then it's a GREAT JOB!

I used to live on $600 a month and I worked part time and attended school. It can be done if you budget smartly and have saved enough $$$.

I have 8 kids. Two of which are in college. So we being the parents are helping them as well. And they both do work. Nothing anyone on here says changes the facts. If you think you can make it, not anyone here will change your mind. As we have all seen in most cases. You just have to live and learn the hard way. Rhino use to run as a team. So I've seen that bring home $3,500 check and then I've seen that -$371.00 pay Central to run their loads. If your young and have no kids by all means it's probably a wonderful job. Even then I hope you skip eating some wks. It's not be any means of the word, stable!

Well I will not be coming to Central after all, my prayers have been answered and the money came through for the tuition to attend the course at the local community college. This has always been my first choice, but did not have the cash for it since i have been off work since June 1st of last year. I did not realize how nervous that i was about Central, i had decided that it was the best choice i had at the time. I still will keep up with this thread, I don't post alot but i read it everyday and look forward to keeping up with y'all.
