The big one is the reefer rule, which says reefers older than 5 years old can't be used in Cali unless they have been modified and certified for operation by CARB. Think of a large fleet like central, how many trailers they have, and how many of them are older than 5 years, it would be cost prohibitive to upgrade all their trailers. This goes too even if you pull a dry load into cali in an older trailer, still going to be banned.

Any trailer that is a 55+ number is newer than 5 years.
It is the 53 and 54's they have to worry about.

Also, on the lease OP thing.
Even if the IRS decided that the lease ops were company, it is the company that would owe taxes, not the drivers.
You would probably get more back from them for over paying. Plus the company would owe back social security, unemployment, workers comp etc.

When all is said and done with the leases. If the drivers are running solo and not training, they will make slightly more than a company driver. A company driver running like the lease op's are can make 50k+ a year at Central.
Net, after all is said and done most Lease Ops will not actually net that much.
Sure gross will be sky high. But after all costs etc, they really only make a little more and have allot more chance to loose there ###.
BTW. I got the 50k from my own experience. I ran 99% legal, and my Net for a full year with them was over 50k as a company driver.

    jess-juju Thanks this.

Well am at my companies yd in Olathe, KS. Trk has to go into the shop for 1 little ole light. Problem is in the harness since I replaced the light myself. Also I finally broke down and replaced my Abloy lock that I lost. $65!! Was going to blow it off but have gone thru that much in master locks myself. BTW, never buy a 4 pack of locks. 1 day in the ice and rain and there worthless. Anyway, was BSing with the parts guy and asking about the best way to take care of them and he ended up giving me a used lock, in perfect order, and it only cost me a soda. Hmmm, $65 vs $1.25. Wonder which deal I went for? lol
Looks like I'm going to get a reset in while here and not bummed out about that all. Can use the break since their running me ragged again so far this trip out.
Oh yea and YEA!!! They loaned me the little tools to pop my radio out so that I could extract my brand new CD out of it. Been stuck in there for 5 days now.

So my question is this. Don't you have to turn your card in if you quit and if so, how do you get to your money? Card is company property, right?

50+ degrees here in arkansas... could this be a night I DONT have to idle? QC just beeped.... I have been preset already... must contact fleet mgr. why dont they just send us the load info instead of that useless msg. I dont bother sending mac 6 anymore... they always preset me before i pick up my current load or the day before i deliver my 99.

Number 1/ YOU would NOT be responsible for the Taxes, CENTRAL would be!!!!

You would PROBABLY have paid more quarterly taxes then a company driver and would be due a big refund.

You would more then likely come out in front money wise as all money spent on the truck would be reimbursed.

What I am doing would help the Lease Ops with Central not harm them.

Maybe you should have a look at WVC and Conley at alllllllll the Lease trucks that have been turned in.......If I can help a few of those guys then I'm happy.

Your post and others like it are the reason Central will continue to treat there Lease Ops the way they do.:biggrin_25513:

So you Lease a truck with Central and Know what I am talking about???????:biggrin_2559:
