The pay is good and is consistent. That's mainly because they have cheaper rates than others. It's not the worst place to work but if you want better benefits and not have to work almost 70 hours a week to make the good money I'd look at other options. Plain and simple with central you get a check not much more.

No problem, and another bit of Central Transport trivia is that they were not always a longbox pulling carrier either as everyone sees them now, at one time they did run sets, when they got the Reno, NV terminal up and running, they did dispatch double sets to Sacramento and to Carlin, NV, at one point I think they ran triples trailers to Carlin for a short period of time if my memory recalls .

I’ve seen Central pulling pups, but not in a very long time.
USMC 3531 Thanks this. -
True but even longer than that, in Nevada there were trucking companies still doing 1099 well into the mid 2000s, mostly your Central,Watkins,Fed Ex Ground and California Overnight companies to name a few.speedyk Thanks this.

i cannot recall seeing any pups on the roads, or in that yard, but then, i can recall many others things..

It's been a very long time since they pulled pups, the funny thing is that I can remember, atleast in Reno when they didn't even exist, I got into this frieght thing a year after Willig Freight Lines went out of business.

Does anyone remember the OTHER Central Transport? The union one? I know they had a barn in Harrisburg PA that my uncle worked at.

I was in grade school in the 80s, you have been at this a little longer than me, I can say this, when I got into LTL, atleast in Reno, there were no Old Dominion, R+L, and even Saia for that matter, Yellow and Roadway were separate companies still CF, Nations Way, Motor Cargo, Vecta, Crescent, West Ex, Overnite, Matheson Fast Freight, Anderson and Sons, Viking, ABF and a little company called Applegate were still running the roads then, remember any of them?sabresfan 76 Thanks this.

when i used to drive thru Nevada, and the Vegas area, (i cannot recall if it was I-5?) miles after miles of darkness, then suddenly a casino area and other places all lit up the sky, then back to miles and miles of darkness, till the next casino area....
i had to stop and wet my tires..
i heard this blood curdling screams
freaked me out, i zipped up, in mid stream and made feet back to the cab.
i was later told what i had heard was jack rabbits, being torn apart live by the coyotes....
i hated darkness, especially driving thru Nevada......Bob Dobalina and Air Cooled Thank this.
