I am an ex terminal manager at Central. I have got to let all personnel that I know this has got to be the most un ethical company in business today. They treat drivers like trash. They treat customer like trash and managers and dispatchers like trash. I was terminated because I refused to fire a driver that was hit from behind by a pick up truck. the driver of the pick up called and reported that the central driver was driving too slow. I refused to fire him, so I was terminated. Most drivers at Central are desperate to leave, but too afraid because the economy is weak. The hiring policy for drivers at Central is pretty lax compared to other big name outfits like Hunt, Schneider and Fedex. All of which I have worked for in my career. It really makes me wonder how this rag tag outfit stays in business. I believe in hard, honest work for an honest days pay. Guys Central is no good. If you are employed there, my best advice is set aside some money and look elsewhere. Yeah the money is decent, but you get the doooo doooo worked out of you. Just ask Bob Cheatham, the Treminal Manager at the facility in Norcross, GA if he is still there. the turnover rate for Terminal Managers is astronomical. Unless you are truly desperate, don't go there!!!!! I swear every thing written here is the honest truth!!!

I concur. I worked out of Kenosha, WI in 2007. It's nothing more than a gig to make some quick money. In my 7 months I've seen new faces five times over. Hammond, IN is run like a boot camp. They got mad if you took a break on your 14 hour day. If they didn't like someone, they would deliberately hold them over so they were late getting back to their terminal just to piss you off and create friction on the other end. The Sterlings they had were all ragged out. Forklifts had square tires and nobody charged them up. Always a pain to get a good one. Fifty crazy truck drivers wide open on forklifts was fun though.
I did have many $1700 checks. You worked your butt off for it. You were so tired you slept all weekend. Most people can't handle them long term.
I did run Kenosha to Ft Wayne many nights when the regular was out. They didn't even allow you time to stop. Five minutes late and they were yelling at the top of their lungs. Very uncomfortable work atmosphere. -
I used to work for a UTSI company. It seemed to be run as poorly as Central. Keep the faith, brother!!!

I also used to work in that Detroit hell hole for Central. It always sucked pretty bad, but became downright unbearable when they moved us from Romulus, to the old Yellow yard in one of worst areas of Detroit.

Went through orientation with them as a driver/dock worker but turned down the job. Third world terminal, long hours, third shift, and I'd never get up to speed cramming freight into the trailers the way I saw it being done. No direct deposit, you wait three weeks for your first check.
By contrast, I've done drop and hooks at the Conway terminal in Plainfield, Indiana. Well kept, clean, nice break room, uniforms- a night and day difference from CT. -
i have been at shippers and seen their trucks..i feel really bad for anyone who has to drive that junk..literally held together with zip ties and duct tape..i have seen there terminals and they are horrible from the yard to the wharehouse to the fence around the yard..no one should have to work in those conditions..i would say its time to bring back the union but i doulbt that would happen..if anything they should use other resources avalible to them..like Osha and the DOT..

Yep and the owner is a multi millionare several times over.
I do remember when they were union and it was a good company.
Then in the early 80's he went to non union. Was selling his old day cabs to drivers at really high prices...
Sad to see such a good company at that time go down to what it is now. -
Central was still Teamsters when I was there in the late 80's. It was an OK place to work.
