Did Central Transport buy Vitran Express cause I been seeing alot of Vitran Express pulling Central Transport trailers. What was the reason behind the acquisition? Someone told me they were on the verge of shutting down cause of bankruptcy last year. Is that true?

I seriously doubt it. The people that own Central Transport also own Pam Transport, this I know. They're supposedly owned by two billionaires, and I doubt they'd have much to gain by selling to Vitran Express. They're probably just collaborating which each other and footing out clients/loads to each other. PAM and Central are known for this. We used to run Conway loads all the time when I was working with PAM. Conway didn't lend their trailers out though, neither did FED EX Freight. I guess there'd be no point since PAM has plenty of trailers, and they're insured under their drivers. I just quit them last Dec.
My guess would be that Central Transport may have bought out Vitran Express, but I'm not sure. PAM was rumored to have bought out a company that run in the lower states awhile back if I'm not mistaken. I can't remember the name. It'll come to me. I'm pretty sure they bought out Choctaw Express Inc. (C.E.X.) before that one though. C.E.X. ran in higher states, not just lower states.
Unless you're talking about a different Central Transport. I'm assuming you're talking about the yellow trucks. They run doubles.
We were told in orientation (PAM) that their stocks are up. I don't doubt it either because they don't pay their drivers much, and they have rather large fleet (teams also). They have a lot of muscle to flex, so they prolly can afford to run loads for other carriers at a fraction of the cost.Last edited: Feb 21, 2014

Ok, according to google Transforce acquired Vitran. However, since the controlling body of Central Transport (Manuel "Matty" Moroun) also controls the Ambassador Bridge, I'm sure they're cooperating with each other vigorously now because Transforce is supposed to be one of if not the biggest transport and logistics company in Canada.
