This was our 3rd load this year for CH Robinson. We only use them as a last resort.

I'm amazed with the wealth of knowledge and advice given by some members on this forum.

First of all this is our 3rd load this year for CH Robinson. We took this load because there is nothing coming out of Montreal all of the loads are given to Quebec Carriers first. Load was paying $550 for 344miles a lot better than dead head 454miles home empty.

We were told by CH Robinson "No touch, no pallet exchange and no lumper fees".

Our problem, it took 6 hours to unload the truck because Metro is on work slowdown they want to go on strike. Then there was another 2 hours wasted trying to figure out how to pay lumper fees. The driver did not have that much cash on him. They actually wanted our driver to go to the nearest ATM machine and draw cash to pay lumper fees. Sure drive around Toronto with a 53' trailer looking for bank or ATM machine.

Now we have another problem with CH Robinson. During the unloading we were told they would take care of the driver for waiting. Today they are telling us that they will not pay for waiting times. Red flags are being raised four months behind on paying lumper fees and now they can't afford to pay waiting times.

So basically, your claim is that CHR is having financial problems because of something a lumper "said" about past due fees, and that they "said" they would pay detention and are now renigging. Seriously doubt that.

Here's the golden rule with CHR (and all deep-pocket brokers, for that matter)-

"If it's not on the rate confirmation, it doesn't exist".

It doesn't matter what they tell you on the phone, or what a low level dock worker told your driver. If it ain't in writing, you ain't getting paid for it.

It's not what the lumper said, their account was red flagged. They had to issue a T-Check so that the truck can be released. Therefore it's true they have not paid their bills at Metro supposedly for over 4 months.
I posted this on the board so that companies who deal with CH Robinson and Metro are aware of what has transpired.

    Enough said.

I learned long ago about CH, they will pay waiting time, but get it BEFORE you pull from the dock !!!!

And they have some very good paying freight, let the other guy haul that cheap stuff !!!

CHR is very good at what they do. I would like to know how they get their employees to perform the way they do. They are excellent sales people and negotiators. They know the truck to load ratio in every market they are in and have a pretty good idea of what it will take to get a load moved. When you are in a tight market you will get paid well, but don't expect $2/mi off the East Coast.

That being said, most of them know very little about trucking. This is especially evident when hauling flatbed loads for them. Our van dispatchers refuse to haul loads that require a lumper unless it is on the rate conf that the broker is paying the lumper via comchek/tchek/etc. Why lay out $100 to get the truck unloaded and wait 45 days to get your money back? It is their load and their customer and their responsibility.

CHR being in financial trouble is laughable. They make 20% margins and are a selling machine. It generates big $$$$$$$.

CH Robinson has always stood for Cheap Heavy Load, Delivers Yesterday. To my experience they have never paid standby, and will wait along time on the lumper fee then pay half. So Good Luck, Your going to find you would have made more to deadhead. IMHO>
