Hmm. I use grade 70 3/8 chain for my step deck. I have not move in to heavy haul yet. Still looking for a trailer. I was thinking the grade 100/120 was for rigging and not for HH. I was under the impression grade 80 was still around. I still see it being sold on the internet. Anyway. I agree with the shock /shatter of chain when they are heat treaed. I wasn't intersted in the grade 100/120, but, the grade 80 was a thought. I guess I will stick with the grade 70 (1/2inch) chains to purchase. Also, seems like step deck/flat bed trailers are only rated to handle 5500lbs on the spools so 1/2 chain won't work. (they will up to the rating of the weakest item. In this case, the spools)

Heads up if you haul equipment over 10k to Canada. The chains have to have a wll over 5000 is g70 5/16 won't work.

Well, I can't imagine using 5/16th chain. What is the purpose of chain I would use on my Rotti

Not a worry. Not to much equipment of that weight goes on a flat. Now if when i ever get around to buying that low pro step I'll trade out some of my smaller chains for the 3/8ths. Until then i prefer the lighter weight.

Heck i use them on 50k lb coils, with a couple 3/8ths. Its the total WLL that matters, not the wll of each individual securement.

Concrete Pipe. You have to put so many chains through them that 5/16" works great for them on a flatbed. The 4 axle trailers we have carry 5/16 in the box so we don't have to pull any off the truck.
