    Sweet!
Having all the pieces is nice...some days working with that much is a royal pain...

Regarding Grade 80 chains, are they more prone to breaking under shock load then grade 70 chains.. Will Grade 70 typically stretch before breaking.

Dug this up from my crane days.....won't end the debate but the info is there
Look for the difference in WLL & minimum breaking force (how "brittle" it is)

I asked about those here once and that's what the guys all told me.

If you haul things like wheel loaders on a spring ride RGN pulling with a spring ride tractor, you'll have some issues with shock load because the machine will bounce.

The Gr 70/80/100 chain thing brings back memories of my roll cage building days. There was always a debate on what to use:
    • "You should use mild (think Gr70) and not CrMo (think Gr 80/100) because the mild will bend and CrMo is brittle and will break before it bends"
    • "No, you can use a thinner wall (i.e.- smaller chain) CrMo and get the same strength as mild- they both bend"

I'm sure on some race car board right now there is a thread "Roll cage tubing- 1018 or 4130- what do you use and why"

No, no.., that's ok. Just making sure. :)

Funny though, they make rifle barrels out of chrome moly.
