Anyone gotten there hazmat endorsement even though they had been sent to a psych hospital and adjudicated as mentally deficient by a court? I lost my gun rights so i know i will pop on a fbi check.

I took the test today and passed, i was honest on the form at the dmv and now i wait to see what they say.

Ewww........are you trying to get into chemical/fuel/crude hauling?? They are about the only jobs out there that actually PAY for a "H/X" endorsement.

I don't see any psych related items on the list of disqualifying offenses that prohibit issue of HazMat. Here's the link to the official list from TSA

Part C is UNDER WANT, WARRANT OR INDICTMENT for a felony.

The bold is just due to copying from the website. It's not for impact. It probably would have taken less time just to reformat it then to explain the bold formatting, but here we are.

You are getting into Mental Health here. If you have been indicted (Big word) and have lost your 2nd amendment rights by not being able to purchase weapons against the written and phone call form, then it becomes something that you need to disclose in orientation at a trucking company. They could send you packing.

THEY WILL send you packing if you filled out a employment application and lied about your MH History.

    Now Hazmat.

You are going to be under what is called a Security Threat Assessment by the TSA/Homeland Security. It's particular. I don't see anything specifically DQ about MH as say a conviction for treason etc for example.

    Here is the link.

    HAZMAT Endorsement

By and large, generally speaking the Industry is really really really sensitive to anyone becoming a mental nutcase with a 40 ton 18 wheeler. An example would be in California like decades ago where a driver lost his marbles and rammed some sort of City Hall's front doors with his Semi as the story is told to me. I'll have to google it. You can pretty much assure that driver will never touch a semi again. IF they let him out ever.

If you have a current and VALID DOT Medical exam on you you probably will be sent to ANOTHER DOT Exam like all other potential truckers in orientation. Doctors generally assess your mental health on any visit these days. This is in place since the Obama Era Healthcare laws passed during that administration.

For example. My family doctor that first year was required to ask me three questions.

1 do I feel like hurting myself or anyone. Are you kidding?
2 do you have or own guns? What? This is turkey season you have those magazines in waiting room.
3 are you addicted to anything?

He only asked me this set once. And Ive been with him as a patient almost 20 years. Ive held Hazmat among other things before in life. No worries there.

My current doctor has a panel of mental health evaluations that has been ongoing on every visit this year. There is a staffer that evaluates me quietly and inputs information against this panel. If I am so much as "Off" mentally, guess what? That will get handled regardless of my opinion on the matter.

The VA has seriously increased Mental Health against my Ex. She also was a team trucker with me for a while and also held hazmat etc. But the more the VA leaned on her the easier it became for her to be less involved. I understand we are losing vets and they are hurting enough to kill themselves etc. But feeling the "Heat" of a entire hospital staff on that floor down there in that dept was enough to make you feel as if you were some kind of nut or criminal. You follow me? It is not a helpful or sunshine happy place. No way. It's evolved into something really bad in say the last 10 years. Im not a vet and I even felt it. How dare I show up with my spouse to these appts. They treated me like a unwelcome intruder. So much for that.

This industry does not tolerate drinking and driving of semis. But even less tolerance for mental defectives is the best term I have for that. That is NOT what I am judging or calling the OP personally here. Again, I am speaking in general. I hold a concealed carry license and IDF core training against terrorists via handguns. And you can pretty much gaurantee if there is a ISSUE anywhere close to MH, I would not be allowed any of this.

There is one additional wrinkle you must consider.

Schedule One Drugs. It's usually related to Mental Health because it alters the mind for example a smashed and howling patient unable to tolerate the hell and pain of existance post accident will be given certain schedule one drugs for the mind so he or she can rest away from the acute problem. That is a automatic DQ against anyone who holds a CDL for a period of time half life of drug given times 7.

Now the reason I spent a paragraph explaining schedule one drugs, Is Pot. It's legal in some states for Rec use, and others for Medical use. Generally in Arkansas, if I am sick enough to be prescribed Medical Pot and given a card. Guess what? I am also too sick to hold a CDL and I WILL have police show up at my house and take away any guns present to be melted down forever. This is specific to my state. We just became Medical pot only in the last election. They are in the process of opening dispensaries and so on to get this stuff out. (Ugh....)

    Anyway.

The Internet will not decide if you are a threat or not when applying for Hazmat. TSA/Homeland Security will make that decision. When they do, you WILL get a FORMAL LETTER in the mail direct to you personally whatever direction they decide. Yes able to get it or NO not able to get it and explained why.

Nothing in my post is a judgement against or for MH. It is strictly my opinions and experiences. Plus a link pointing to the Hazmat Threat Assessment for TSA/Homeland.

Things have seriously changed since 9-11. And not always for the better. And in some cases I think for the better.

Take it one day at a time. Be well.

I went last week to get my BG check for HM, and the gal specifically asked about mental institutionalizations.

    (Holy spell check, Batman!)

My smart phone almost sent the word Dweeb instead of another nicer word to my ex, I caught the auto correct in time.

I am about had enough of that silly auto correct. Ima find something around it. All it takes is that one word to cause a tornado today.
