It'll take a bit of time to get used to shifting a manual truck, If he trains in an auto and never drove a stick

I wouldn't want an Auto-Only license but it's probably only going to restrict you to 95% of available jobs. By next year it'll probably be a non-issue. How's your Spanish, Somali, or Russian?

Averitt is Regional with all autos. I don't really care for them but others do.

Lol. Sad but pretty much true. You can get on probably with an outfit like Useless Express (U.S. Express ) but that's more of a sentence than a job from what you read and hear from others

He used a stick for the 3 weeks of school, but the 5 or 8 weeks with a trainer, including getting cdl is all auto, then an auto truck afterwards.

Abilene has an all auto fleet. I have no other company experience to compare them to, but judging by the amount of drivers here with 10, 20 and 30+ years of experience who could pretty much work anywhere they want, it must not be a bad company to work for.

If you want to remove the restriction pay someone 300-500$ to let you use a manual truck to retest at your DPS.
