I was testing Garmin ELD this week. Any time you start the engine it will log it. Now if you start the engine during 34 reset then your reset is not count. You started the engine, you were on duty. )))))))))))

And that's fine but it doesn't reset your 14 hr clock'.

Then log it as sleeper, as stated quite clearly in the regs:
On-duty time shall include:
(4) All time in or on a commercial motor vehicle, other than:
(ii) Time spent resting in a sleeper berth; or -
EVERY ELD is going to do that. If it doesn't, it is not compliant.

Logging you on duty for starting the engine? I don't think so. No ELD I've ever used changed my status to on duty for starting the engine. If I move the truck yes, but not for idling.
-
No, recording that the engine was started or stopped.

When I was driving for Western Express? They told me to not be so litteral. When your on duty you stay that way even if you take a nap in the sleeper. Your still on duty (not driving). As it was I would go to Poland Springs and take a nap as they all to frequently would take 4 hours to get the trailer loaded.

The guy you were responding to said that just starting the engine put him on duty. It records the engine being on but doesn't change the duty status to on duty. That's all I was saying.

As would anyone. But when you change the status on your log it's an official job related task. Why isn't it ODND?
