Well i have been driving for several years now and I am starting to wonder if there is anything out there that is better that what i have now?? So thats the Question I have been pondering lately. here is my current gig..

Home Time--Every Day by 6pm if not earlier.
Pay-- 28% of freight which is 56 cents a mile (all Miles)
    ins-- for myself

I haul Sod so its flatbed and i load and unload myself with piggyback ( no waiting to get unloaded or loaded). No pay when i take truck to get service at shop 20 min from my house. Take truck home allways. ontime, fuel bonus each quarter approx 1000 dollars. average pay is 1100 a week but it gets slow in winter but have two paid weeks vacation at 40 hrs per week at 18$ HR . trucks are 2013 prostar daycab. paper logs ( run hard if i prefer) and company lets me do as I please as long as the load is drop on or before delivery time, and loads may be drop early in middle of night if i choose then i have the day off to do as i please.

I'M THINKING NO BUT I MAY BE WRONG SO I FIGURED I WOULD ASK.

Reread what you have written. You wrote the correct answer-"NO". Why do you want to give up a job that you don't have to wait on someone who doesn't give a darn about loading/unloading you, take your truck home, approx $1000 in pocket 4 times a year with fuel bonuses, paid vacation, and the company lets you do your own thing as long as you up hold your end of the deal??? Home every day, 56 cents a mile for ALL miles?? Please don't give this job up. You will hate yourself in the end if you decide to go OTR. Hard to find a job that pays all miles these days and let you do as you please on your time frame.

There is a farm in GA as well, its in Soperton GA I don't know if they are looking. every farm manager is different though. pay and such is same but truck home and do what you want varies from farm to farm.

After a while I think we all get bored with our current gig. I worked for the same company as a superintendent in construction for the better part of 12 yrs. My job duties were pretty intense, as were the hours I put in. After bonuses I typically saw $120k a year. Full family bennies, take home company truck, expense account, I had it made.

I eventually got tired of the hours, all the same BS from everyone. I mean I'd sit a guy down, I'd offer him $12hr as a laborer. I asked him if this was ok, he signed the forms. Then 2 weeks later, he feels I conned him and wants more money. I get PO'd, Look man, you made your deal coming in the door. Hit the road if you dont like it. He stays, but shows other foreman and workers an attitude, doesnt like to work and I'm forced to fire the guy. Then he wants to sue for discrimination. The upper echelon look at me like its my fault. I'm supposed to read everyone's mind and know who will work out and who wont.

So I'm feeling burned out, I want to do something different. But for an uneducated guy like me, there really isnt too much else I'm good at that will pay that well. So I ride it out and eventually the housing market crash forced my hand and I ended up looking for other work anyway.

You gotta weigh the pro's and cons and try to look at your situation from an out of the box perspective. Do you like what you do? Is there anything else that you would rather be doing? If its a money issue, are you willing to be paid less in order to feel happier?

I'm all about sanity. I can only go so far with money before my sanity starts to leave me. I'm a short tempered guy who has little patience for ignorance and guys who whine about their life, yet do nothing to change it, expecting something to be handed or offered to them because thats what they feel they deserve.

Personally I'd work for less if it means keeping my sanity. My personal happiness is more important to me. My relationship with my family and friends depends on my own personal mental well being. If you find yourself struggling with anger or resentment for reasons you cant really explain,.. I'd say its time for a change.

What a piss poor job you have, I can understand you wanting something better. Give me your bosses phone number and I'll break it to him easy and let him know I'll do the work so he's not in a jam. You need to spend some time to find yourself, now go get your things out of the truck and go start your new life! Good Luck!

I'm pretty sure the OP is nuts . . .or . . . is winding us up.

no i enjoy what i do very much and my boss is the bomb and owners are great as well. I was just seeing if there was a golden goose out there that i must be unaware of because it is very hard for us ( my work) to find good drivers, folks come and go and me and one other driver stay out of 6. this job is best thing i've seen so i just cant understand why its so hard to get and keep drivers. hell some come and loaded their first load in the evening and then don't haul in the morning and just quit with out a word. they clearly know something I don't .

It's called having a work ethic and sticking something out till it pays off. Most want top pay and position the day they start.
