I’m a little behind the times and still running an old mechanical Cummins engine. I have the quick drain valve on the oilpan which is nice.

I also have a capped JIC fitting in the left side oil rail in the block just in front of the starter.

I have a small 12V hydraulic pump I use to put new oil in the engine. At 20+ psi it primes the engine and the filters all at once, helps reduce any dry starts.

I too use Rotella in my bucket of bolts, but have found it scarce in my neck of the woods lately. I did finally find some today at a very unlikely place… Kenny Queen Hdwr. They keep it in stock for their rental machines….

I change my oil at TA, usually Missoula, they know what they are doing. Greasing myself. If I'd change on my own, I'd save $100 to140, considering just oil and filters, don't think it is measurable. If you have hand drain valve, there is no need to have 50+ quarts of oil drain pan, even usual car 2.5-3 gallon one will do a lot better. For the pour in, anything over 2.5 gallons will have a battery powered pump.

As far as transmission and differentials go, it is only once in two to four years thing, depends on miles.. around 300k, never had them go bad even after a million. Main thing is an air filter, that saves a lot, changing it every 15k +/- on weather, 3 minute job with hood opening.

You change your air filter every 15k miles, or am I misunderstanding that?

I don't have the oil drain valve so I needed something to hold all the oil. This is what’s available.

Are you really only paying $300 for an oil change?! I don’t believe that. All i have seen posted here and advertised is $500 plus….so the savings of DIY are significant.

Look, just confider it, if you are running your own truck, what is a two months 100 to 200 "more" expense on oil change? I just spent 500 for the shocks, once a year thing to save the tires, which is a bit of an expense. I DO NOT care what I spend, I care what I MAKE

You must not run very hard .. because alot of the time I have to change my oil twice a month..
What I find amusing is you are trying to justify to us why you let them change your oil ..
But you don't trust them to grease your truck.. so you still end up crawling under it. JMO .. but that makes no sense to me

Brettj3876, kwswan, Oxbow and 5 others Thank this.
