Exactly. It gives you a chance to spot something that could possibly put you on the side of the road later.... thus saving you money.

this is why I change my own oil. the very few times I have had it changed at a t/s. 1 they over tighten the drain plugs, filters and over grease or miss certain zerks. I know because I have a couple of zerks that have issues if you don't know what to look for. once after I was due for an oil change from the previous one done at a t/s I had to drive a punch into the side of oil filter to spin it off because the metal can part was spinning on the filter head that screws on the base. (over tightened) so much grease falling out of my brake cam bushings looked like I had a leaky wheel seal. plus greasing it yourself you will see if anything is a-miss with the underside of your rig. only takes me a couple of hours to do the service at most. plus I really, really like hanging onto my$$$$.

Not to mention you can wipe the road grime off the zerks first instead of forcing #### into your bearings!

Nice. I used to have so much fun leaving cars behind with my dodge. One guy just couldn't understand how a 3500 could beat his mustang, think we did like 4 passes before he gave up.
