The ISX I ran for a period of time returned fuel very hot, and actually got rid of the black crud by cooking it out after winter was over and the weather turned warm. I picked it up at a regualar fuel stop, and to this day, I won't put fuel in at this place, I didn't get 30 miles before the filter plugged and I fought it the whole winter, the shop refused to OK using biocide and it wasn't my call or my truck.

This was an older pre EGR engine, I haven't run a newer one enough to know the difference. Cutting a filter apart to see why it is clogging is a good idea.

I've got the same problem with my 903. Tried biocide, and it didn't help. Actually tried 6 entire rounds of biocide and it didn't help. Black crud all over the inside of the filter, and I can get some to come out dumping the contents through a coffee filter when I take a plugged filter off. Fuel is a very dark green/black color as I run down the tanks.

Only thing that seems to help is Howe's diesel treat, and that just doubles the running hours I get out of a filter to about 30. Probably out of the question if you can't use biocide, though.

Pretty sure I'm burning return fuel at this point.
