What kind of mileage are you getting out of short haul tractor brake linings...........and.........are you changing the drums with each change in linings?
What kind of money are you paying for the drums?

$95.00 for cast drums $207.00for steel drums difference is about 40 lbs between steel and cast,,, steel being lighter is what i was told by Kenworth.
break shoes and drums Milage i havent a clue, but im sure is depends on your braking habits and how much you use the jake. -
I never had a short haul tractor, but OTR I used to get 250,000+ miles. So I would assume maybe cut that in half for city type driving. As far as changing drums... I didn't have to do that every time I changed pads. Just check them for wear and cracks when you have them off. I agree with 2hellandback on the prices. If you have a Truck Pro in your area, I always got good prices from them.

i usually change drums after the second reline . some guys go more than that but if the drum gets too worn they will explode which can cause extra damage and costs more to repair. i run alot of local new york city stuff i usually get about 100,000 out of a set of shoes some guys alot less depends on your driving habits

I do a lot of urban driving loaded heavy. Shoes last about 90,000 miles, every other brake job I put new drums on. Steer axle shoes only last 50-60,000 miles but get 3 brake jobs out of those drums.

We are a long narrow volcanic country, big hills (9%+) stop start traffic 100k lbs 90% loaded on 7 axles, trailer axles on 19.5 inch rims, truck 22.5 have done 700,000km if I don't get 1 million kms out of one set of the shoes and drums I will be devastated.
I do have jakes and a brakesaver screwed up to 60 psi about 800hp engine braking this dose help a lot.
