You have received a lot of good info here, if you want exp. and $$ then I too 2nd whats been said, get you class A, maybe find something local which will give you experience while you keep your steady check,
There can be money made in OTR work many of us do fine, but if you are not a business minded person then you will make the same, less, or maybe a little more than now
Like mentioned, with OTR comes OTR expenses dinners out every day/night, laundry, and many other expenses
it obviously can be done but for those doing great at it we either sucked salt until we figured it out, had some $$ saved up so we could figure it out,
or just got lucky...... yeah that's rare!!

There's no race, go at it local and slow and get everything moving before you jump ship!!

Hey man i know this is an old post, but i just moved to Kissimmee about 9 months ago and I was wondering what Bus company do you drive for? $700 to $800 a week sounds good to me. I was a bus driver for almost 3 years before trucking.

I currently bring home 1800 a week after taxes. I work at ups as a package driver. Aka delivery driver. I am thinking about leaving that job to go get my cdl and start truck driving. Its not aboht the money. We have done very very well with that. Truck driving runs in my family. Something I have always been wanting to do

It's a good thing that is not about the money, if you want to cut your pay in half and work twice as long.

Apply for all the flatbed companies you can, you can hit the 700-800 you're looking for and be home most weekends.

Check out Comcar's tanker division, they hire new CDL grads in northern Florida, both regional and home daily. The pay might be hit or miss but after a year of tanker experience you can write your own ticket for local jobs.

...or just stay with Disney, I mean thats a pretty decent gig...

Since opie's last post was over 2 years ago, I'm thinking Rosa Parks has a better shot of driving that bus...
